It's not too heavy on the lore, I feel. Most games are more or less self contained and Shadow the Hedgehog basically went "Fuck your lore and your fan theories" by having 10 different endings to cover multiple possibilities, only to go "but the truth is none of it matters" in the true end.

The "truth" was that Shadow was actually the real one and that Eggman somehow saved him. But you're only told 8 minutes into the fucking final battle.
