My main issue with DoAX3 is that it ain't fun. It really isn't. I mean, it's clearly a fanservice game and all but that doesn't mean it has to be a goddamn snooze fest. Look at Senran Kagura for example, the gameplay is at least serviceable in that and it's fun to play.

I think the main reason is that porn games tend to be terrible at the game part. I've played a lot of porn/hentai games and most of the time I felt like the game part was almost worthless.
When you watch a porn movie for example, it's mostly porn with a little movie. Porn games tend to be mostly game with little porn, and the as stated the game part is bad.
That might be why visual novels are doing so well. You can make those almost pure porn. Even if the non-porn parts are shit, you can easily skip through it with a single button instead of fighting a game's janky controls in a shitty platformer or another generic RPG Maker game.

PC games do sell well, however, you have to consider the sheer amount of games available on PC compared to consoles. Consoles are simply a better bang for the buck for major developers overall, which is why all the major publishers consider PC an afterthought at best (with a few rare exceptions.) Furthermore, none of the major storefronts (Steam being the major one) will touch porn games for various reasons, so it's not like you can rely on those to drive sales.
