>>
I don't get it.
Why would Nintendo go out of their way to sensor this shit when something like Bayonetta is already on the WiiU? Is it because it involves a Nintendo IP?

Sometimes I get this feeling it has something to do with the FE crowd. At least the new "post awakening" crowd. Even still, those games are inuendo-y as fuck.
>>
>>337738394
They didn't get their hooks into Bayo, Platinum does their own localization, and it was vetted most likely by Japanese. Meanwhile, these games are being domestically localized and domestically vetted.
>>
>>337738394
#FE is produced by Nintendo. Bayo wasnt.
>>
I'm not sure who Nintendo thinks is the target audience of a JP audio only JRPG based off Japanese culture but censoring it won't attract people who weren't interested in the first place.
>>
>>337738658
They're afraid of SJW backlash. There are always more prude eyes turned towards Nintendo than any other company. It has always been that way, though I'd like to see them stick to their guns on this one, mainly because it's a very "specific" kinda game and also a spin-off.

Generally companies frown upon divisions or contractors who invent additional expenses. It's much easier to argue that it's simply down to the specific production supervisors, especially since they recently put out a different game with far racier things generally left alone.

It is clear NoA wished this game never existed and is only bringing it to the West due their desperate need to fill up the Wii U's lineup for the year.

Why did Nintendo even fund this game if they are so embarrassed by it?

Literally the first thing you see when you start Persona 4 is anime titties.

Dancing All Night was all about the idol business like this is, but was pretty much untouched content-wise by the localisers.
>>
Daily reminder that if your Wii U is on 5.5.1 or lower (AKA any firmware currently available), you can hack it. Loadiine allows for modified games, so you can play it completely uncensored. One such example is the "fixed" version of XCX, which is undubbed, uncensored, and you can use features such as the boob size slider.

Just block the Nintendo servers with the appropriate DNS and go nuts.
>>
>>337741006
>Why did Nintendo even fund this game if they are so embarrassed by it?
The Japanese staff are into this kind of thing. And they wanted to make a game like it.
It's NoA who are embarrassed by it. Just like they were embarrassed by head patting in FE. Or bikinis in FF. Or fundoshi in XB.

Japan doesn't have anything against pandering to otaku. It's just NoA who can't deal with it.

As long as your Wii U is on a compatible firmware (AKA 5.5.1 or lower), you're perfectly safe. Just turn off the internet for your Wii U until you're ready.

Once you want to pirate, all you do is use the proper DNS to block updates, and then visit Loadiine's exploit site (with a bunch of files on an SD card in the Wii U, which you get from said site). Once you do that, it boots into the homebrew menu, and you can play pirated games or whatever else you want to do.

It's that simple.
>>
>>337741859
if your internet is off on your Wii U, you should be fine.

>>
>>337741703
It's useless if Nintendo thinks the game failed because people didn't enjoy the theme and aesthetic.

Unless they realise people are boycotting for censorship reasons, this could actually backfire. If it doesn't sell with mild weebshit in it god knows how badly it would sell with heavy weebshit instead, right?

But that's implying there will be a boycot in the first place, which in itself implies there would be significantly more units sold in case there was no censorship. Both of those implications are probably false.

The only solution would be try to reach to Nintendo and voice their complaint, but then again, were we a significant number of people to begin with?
>>
>>337742795
It's not like voicing your opinion does anything. I've sent emails to voice my displeasure and all I get are copy pasted bullshit.

>>
>>337743212
Fates received active advertising and was released for a mainstream system.

Comparing it to #FE isn't really a good idea. #FE itself relies heavily on the fanservice concept at a core level. I mean it's a game about idols.

I genuinely don't understand who the market is for this game, other than those absolutely desperate for any sort of content on the Wii U, because otherwise the mainstream audience is just gonna look up a video like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTl8gDQiKiE

and completely mock it, while the core weebs will avoid it cause it's had its content gutted.

As I said, it's pointless unless there are a significant number of people in choir.

Fates would sell even if it was 60 bucks each piece and Nintendo knew that so they promptly ignored people's complaints.
TMS looks like will sell much less, which is a plus in this case, but we would still need a significant portion of the player base to change their behaviour.

Even if the game sells 50k copies, when only 15 anons voice their opinions it's safe to assume we would be ignored imediately too.
>>
>>337743635
Really? But it was localized by NIS. I thought they were terrible about stuff like that?
>>
>>337743557
Sure, but I mean the censorship issue, which was quite widely documented by the press, didn't have any visible negative effect. Obviously the scale for a game like this would be very different. It's probably closer to Xenoblade, but that's a bad example too because the censorship there is comparatively trivial.
I agree that what they're doing is baffling. This obviously isn't a mass-market game.
>>
>>337731029

Is anybody surprised? I mean you remember Fatal Frame V right? It was a much, much smaller case of this shit but it actively affected the story and fucked it up so I'd argue it was far more egregious and offensive in that regard that they changed it.
>>
>>337743557
I don't know dude. It has FE on the name and people are pretty hyped about FE atm. I think it could find its way into those people's homes, but I agree that it would have to be properly marketed first.

Maybe that's what they're shooting for with the censorship. To get the not-degenerate weeb market.
And yes, they exist. They're just chilling on their own, watching their mainstream anime casualy and playing dumbed down RPGs like FF and FE.
>>
>>337743878
What needs to happen is one significant review site has to post a negative review, with a big - symbol talking about how the censorship made the game lose points.

Plaster a headline upfront like "#FE is a terribly confused censored mess, that doesn't know whose audience it's aiming for". That's the kind of shit that would get Nintendo's attention.
>>
>>337744064

>>337743905
Depends, I guess. Maybe they are iffy with loli content, but to be fair NIS does localize riskier content than any other non-H console publisher, AFAIK. So I don't blame them too much. Some of the stuff they alter I understand but they did do some stupid shit also
>>
>>337744358
I think that's an even more niche audience than just pandering to weebs in general.

At the end of the day, are those casual ones going to be actively offended by the content in this game? I highly doubt it. Your Narutos and your One Pieces, the mainstream bread and butter of your standard Crunchyroll watchers, have worse stuff. You're only alienating your most core of demos.
>>
>>337744382
It would, but at the same time no review outlet would do that, because they'd be crucified for it.

In fact, it's probably out of fear of releasing another Dragon's Crown that this shit happens. Clickbait sites are always on the lookout for a stereotypical weeb game to lash onto.
>>
>>337744858
Dragon's Crown sold really well though, probably BECAUSE of the aforementioned outcry.

Didn't hurt that it was a great game with gorgeous graphics.
>>
>>337732901
Is that how fancy Loadiine is now? Is it worth going through the trouble of setting it up if I'm on 5.3.2?
Why aren't there launchers this fancy for PC games?
>>
>>337744858
I don't know, those negative reviews can generate clicks just as well. Look at the Washington Post outcry due to Uncharted 4.

You get someone who really chews into the censorship, and you could get some people talking, and more importantly, looking at your article.
>>
>>337744468
The inherent issue is that Japan is fine with naked sexualized teenagers and pre-teens. That shit doesn't fly in the west so they make the changes. Most of the games targeted at Japanese men feature girls of said ages so that's where the issue arises.

The changes aren't just for the USA. Germany, Sweden, and plenty of other European countries are harsher about that stuff, and they only want to make one western version. If anyone wants to make changes, they're going to have to start from the ground up and change what family friendly means.
>>
>>337744709
You know what? I don't have a clue.

Maybe the anime casuals wouldn't mind it, but it's also possible that they would find it offensive. They're awefully selective about their degeneracy.

My powerlevel in anime is mild, but just following drama like the Dance in the Vampire Bund controversy makes me come to the conclusion that even when people are perfectly fine watching panties galore in Ikkitousen or don't give a shit about nipplefest Queen's Blade or Koihime Musou (which had loli nipples in them), they'll lose their shit over a 1000yo loli nipples on screen.

In the end, I can't say if they'd be fine with it or not. I'd like to belive they'd not, but it's still Nintendo and they're probably scared shitless about that happening.

>>
>>337745328
Making "one" western version is retarded though, and nobody has ever done that before. We've never been saddled with Germany's violence laws for example.

Also that's just not true at all, it's always been dependent on the localizers. There's many examples of say, lolis in swimsuits or naked flat chests in SK games,, and it's never forced higher ratings or anything.
>>
>>337744406
I think someone patched the costumes back in. Check GBA Temp.

If a character is well realized, no matter if it's sexualized originally or not, that character will be more sexualized by the fans than a character that is originally sexualized but is otherwise bland as fuck.

If they made a decision based on the majority of the consumer base, I'd understand it. I'd be mad as fuck, but I'd understand it from a marketing standpoint.

The issue many people have here is that it makes no fucking sense because the vast majority of people who will actually buy the game preffer uncensored. Why appeal to the complaints of people who will probably not even buy the game.

I don't usually trust big compannies to show common sense, but when it comes to making money, you'd think they'd stick with whoever would buy more copies, no?

Even the argument of "protecting the brand" is kinda iffy when you take into account Nintendo is already associated with Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors.

Ultimately, the censoring is fucking ridiculous. Not the act of sensoring, which kinda is too, but the specific things they're censoring in this game are so petty it's not even worth the outcry.

I get the age thing. Pedophilia is a stuídly overblown boogyman. I'd even kinda see why they'd hide some skin here and there, but fucking vagina bones? Seriously?

Nintendo is hoping any new game could appeal to normies. They don't understand why the Wii was a success and so they want any game they put out to be potentially open to normie sales, no matter how ridiculously unlikely that would be. Who knows, maybe The Big Bang Theory will have an anime ep and all the normies will run out and buy #FE, right?

He may be right about that. We may think it's kitsch but for the audience it was aimed at, #FE was a well oiled machine. Idol garbage with scantily clad women and tacky outfits that let otaku dress up their waifu. NoA generally took that feel and shat on it.

You still haven't sent a message to Nintendo in Japan that NoA is exploiting the system of receiving more localization budget funds for the more changes they decide to make. Until you do this, you will keep getting censored games. Find a Japanese guy, translate a message, send it to Nintendo Co Ltd
>>
>>337748870

the outfit was obviously inspired by bdsm, but it had the white and pink parts to make it seem lighter and more feminine. the exposed skin draws attention to her hips and creates an alternating light and dark pattern. in the censored version her entire lower body is a solid color, making it harder to distinguish her features, especially since the concert she was wearing it in was at night and the stage was floating above the audience, meaning that she would be framed against the dark sky.

come on senpaitachi, this is basic stuff
>>
>>337748673
what about Pokemon sun & moon?

>>337749510
The game has no target audience. It was supposed to be otakus but Nintendo has no idea how to actually make a game that panders to them so it failed. Why it is being localized is a mystery.

Boycots don't do shit. I'm dissatisfied with the censorship but I'll probably still buy it because boycots are innefective and because I wasn't getting the game solely for what's now missing anyway.

I still think the only way is reaching to Nintendo in some way, but if only 3 people do it then there was absolutely no hope to change this. It's better to reevaluate the value of the product and make a new decision based on the updated cost-benefit relationship.
Or don't buy it on principle, but do it on your own morals, not expecting to make a grain of difference.

>>337749709

Don't blame me for not jumping into a sinking boat. If I saw viability in it, I'd do it. If people like me were the majority, we'd do it.

I'd be part of the problem if I dissuaded people from participating in the boycot, which I'm not doing. I'm just explaining the mindset that determines my individual action.
And it's not like I needed to do that. It's simply an utopia my friend.

As I said, it's not impossible to do something about it. It's just that a boycot is not the best way to do it, not to mention the potential of abuse that a boycot culture might cause.

In fact, it's a good thing that boycots don't work. Can you imagine what it would be like if every jerk out there decided to push a boycot aganist, I don't know, games with overly sexualized girls in them? Now that would be aweful, wouldn't it?

It would have found its way to TV, with live interviews by Zoe Quinn, Brian(na) Wu, and Allison Rapp, decrying the sexism, pedophile, and hysteria of modern gamers.

It just refutes the protecting the brand argument. Bayonetta 2 is exclusive to Nintendo it is tied with Nintendo's image and part of the Nintendo brand even though they didn't localize it. It's not about the brand, it's more likely that NoA is full of SJWs who are in charge of localization.

This. Nier Automata is looking really solid, and we know what to expect from Platinum games. Even with no-budget cash-ins like Transformers and Korra, they still manage to make a satisfying combat system.

And Persona 5 is looking better and better with each new piece of information we get, so even people burned by how #FE turned out can have something to wash the taste out.
>>
>>337750910
I wish I was there.
>>
>>337754086
That's bullshit rationalizing towards your own interests.

As I said, I'd preffer no censorship over censoring, but I wasn't buying the game excusively for the content that was cut out. The game might still hold value, but I'll wait to see what people who actually played the game think of it before comitting, like I do with almost everything.

First of all, you have to make an assessment whether or not the product is still worth the price. If it's not just don't buy it. If it's worth the time but not the price then sure pirate it, but if that's the case there's probably better things to do with your time.

If the game still holds value though, then it's better to buy it, not only for the game itself but for the sake of showing interest in the product and then voice your opinion on how to improve it.

Not giving any sort of feedback (cash or opinion, but preferibly both) is useless for them to figure out what the fuck you want. Or even if you cry about it but not show enough interest in the rest of the game, then you just want a lewd/porn game, which is fine, but Nintendo specifically probably don't want to make that.
>>
>>337754657
Problem with Platinum games is every game is like 3 hours long at most.
