I want a LONG story, not gay weekly raids and rng drops.
Eh, it's so-so. It's hard to keep a theme park interesting when only a few rides matter for months at a time. The same dungeons and quests get boring. What hurts FFXIV is the same thing that hurts WoW, the whole notion that every person doesn't really rely on anyone else for most of the content. There's very little community momentum. Only the content, matters and only a very small subset of that content is challenging enough to bother organizing over.
I still play but it's just barely worth my money to keep casually raiding.

They removed armor/weapon drops and moved to material drops then the crafting system would actually matter and community interaction would increase as combat specialized players would seek out high level crafters to make their gear. That's just one improvement that would help the game.

Houses suck any way so I suggest just avoiding the effort. When you go into the area for houses, no one is there. Houses are literally just a way to get rid of excess money.
I used to think houses in games like SWG were stupid. Then I played modern MMOs where they're literally in a separate zone and serve no purpose.

If I had it my way the only way to craft/meld materia would be with a special machine locked behind the current tier's first boss. Put it in the Articulation zone and you would have to pay a static to escort you in if you wanted to get anything done.

When does tanking as GLA/PLD get better? I cannot hold hate to save my life. I run in, shield toss, flash twice and start wailing on the mob I beaned with my shield popping every cool down that I have available. Do I just have to wait for better skills? I hear that when you hit 50, it's quite a bit better. I've only played mage classes before this.

What level are you? It helps when you get your tanking stance at level 40, PLD is notoriously bad at level 30-39, can't hold aggro for shit.

For whatever reason, SE decided in their wisdom that it was sensible for tanks to obtain their tank stances later than level 15. For PLD in particular this is level 40. It's not uncommon to struggle in the 30-39 range.

I main Warrior and have only played gladiator until I got my provoke, so I'm not sure. Warrior is a lot of fun, maybe dark knight too. It's a pain in the ass to suddenly swap classes though.

Its a pretty good game. I'd only play it with friends though, and apparently some people dislike the endgame. I think it's pretty good but whether its worth $15 a month is up to you.

Its queue based like most MMOs. However, instead of using hotkeys, you use menues like a typical Dragon Quest game. You also have far more options to influence the queue than something like FFXIV.
