How on Earth did they ever think anything about the Xbox One was going to be a success? Surely people had to be taking steps back and reconsidering everything they were doing, right? They had to know putting such a large focus on content other than video games for a video game console was a monumentally stupid idea. They had to have had info that the PS4 was purchasing better tech from AMD. They must've looked at the giant black brick of a VCR they were making and thought it was way too big to actually showcase. Hell, this shit started before the XBO even released, right? They already designed and released a first draft of the Kinect. They knew people didn't give a flying fuck about it so why would they bother developing that further for the XBO?

Nobody actually believes it still has problems with online authentication and used games. It's simply because Xbox One is known as that One console brand that has a permanently tarnished reputation, and is slightly less powerful, whereas Playstation 4 is the one that is the least shittiest therefore it's the console that all your other friends are playing on, and it just so happens the PS4 version will most likely be the main SKU for multiplatform games.

So despite the complete disaster of PS3's launch, Microosft still couldn't make themselves as the de facto "adult" gaming console
This time the launches are reversed and the Xbone division seems to have no fucking plans to catch up. They took the studios that made the other 3rd party titles and put them on Kinect. 360 had a significantly superior 3rd party line up to PS4 till 2009 when it all fell apart and all the studios that should have been working on big traditional console games were stuck in Kinect hell outside of Halo-Forza-Gears because those were their top sellers. If there was no horribly stupid boondoggle on it like Kinect, they would have continued making 1st party exclusives.

Me and all my friends switched over from Xbox 360 to ps4 after that always online and no used games bullshit happened. It really fucked them up and you could already tell that it was purely to make more money because steam had an offline mode so their excuse just didn't check out. I wonder if they will change XBL Gold requirements for multiplayer now. They got this whole pay to connect system going maybe they will be the ones to kill it. Increased integration with Windows just doesn't make it seem fair to console users either. Sony has already been successful with PS+, if the new xbox debuts no gold for online it could see a wave of support. Doing it now though would just be seen as being desperate though.
MS decided to focus on themselves and developers, instead of focusing on delivering a quality product to consumers. Every choice they announced at the reveal was spurred on by sheer greed. Sure, they're a company and they have to make money, but you do that by delivering something that customers want, not something that serves you most of all.
Sony grabbed that opportunity, showing they were interested more in the customer than maximizing their potential profit, and they won. And they did so even when they changed their online from a free model to a pay model.
