I had a look at the song lists for both versions and picking just one side is almost impossible, a lot of the songs on either side are so damn close.
Picking either Acceleration or Mythmaker kills me.

Also Day of the Futute/Meisou Mind and Kazabana/Tonari ni.
Hell, lots of the matches.

I'll need to get both if I do decide to get them.
>>
>>337705918
Older games have had Mario songs but never got localized. If it ever happens again it will get the Taiko Drum Master treatment anyway.

>>337706836
Bamco is evil, they knew most people would buy both versions for this.
>>
>>337707104
Maybe for good or worse they seem to know their shit.
The songs on either side really are incredibly balanced, I can't point at either game and call it better.

I'm sure buying one would be fine, I'm the one at fault for being a reckless fan.

I want to play the arcade version so much. It looks incredibly fun, and the whole endurance over reflex aspect of it sounds like a great challenge.

But it's never going to happen, so portable and reflex it is.
>>
>>337705869
Home controllers just suck. It's a game about beating the drum as hard as you can, and these cheap plastic pieces of shit barely even receive input. It's uncomfortable and not fun to use.

>>337707802
Visiting a Japanese arcade has to be in my top 3 dreams.
>>
>Try one on the WiiU
>Terrible at it once it goes a certain speed or lots of blues show up

Well fuck.
>>
>>337708018
It actually gets much easier once you start increasing the difficulty. On easy the notes come at such a slow pace that your timing and accuracy has to be really good, which is kind of hard at first. When you start playing on at least medium, but especially on hard, you will actually start getting patterns that match the rhythm and flow of the song, and the learning curve suddenly becomes much more tolerable.

At this point though anything lower than Oni feels disjointed as fuck to me, and I struggle to pay attention playing them.

>>337710914
I have one and I'm not sure what the difference between the Chinese one is but I'll tell you about mine.
Everything is fine on the drum, there are no problems with it whatsoever. The sticks that come with it are decently hard and the drum itself is good quality. Only problem is, is that you have to hit the drum and the sides really hard to register a hit. So if you are playing on a smooth surface like a table the drum is going to be sliding all over the place.

I brought home a Tatacon last week and as expected, it sucked major ass, required me to literally beat the shit out of it for hits to even register and felt like a massive waste of 100 bucks (shipping and customs fees lol).

...Until I decided to pick it apart and mod it, following this tutorial: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=89954309&postcount=117
Now it's so responsive it even registers light taps with my fingers, and I can do those flick drum rolls the nips always do. It's extremely satisfying to play with, and after only a few days of getting used to the switch from buttons to drumsticks I can consistently full combo stuff a difficulty star below what I'm able to with buttons. I can even almost clear Kita Saitama 2000 with it.

Just do it. It's a really low-risk mod since you're not tearing anything out, just replacing the foam and inserting some rubber pieces into the holes that are already there (as opposed to tearing that whole protector out like some Japanese tutorials recommend). It takes like 20 minutes to do at first and I only had to unscrew and adjust 3 or 4 times until it worked perfectly 100% of the time with not missed or incorrect inputs.

I still have problems FCing most songs in Oni, let alone Ura, but I guess it's just a matter of time and practice to get better.

I don't know the track list.
>>
>>337719089
It's a shame the 3DS and Vita taikos have been so lacking in the classics section, I recently went back to the Wii games and played the Wii U games thanks to that recent kernel exploit and there is some really good, underrated shit in there.

>Let's talk about gameplay in a game with simple, shitty gameplay
>>
>>337718589
I share >>337719089's sentiment, classic songs are by far the best, and because of this the more recent games don't really appeal to me that much. I was alright with animu and game shit, the original namco tracks tend to be fucking great too, but this vocaloid and idolmaster shit is too much for me.

Personally I'm in love with this one:

Too bad they only ever pick animu songs that are actual, or achieved classic status. I would kill for either of this.

Why is there no rhythm games general on /vg/? Feels like it'd be comfy and a good way to discover and learn about new games.

...Then again 99% of the posts would be from Osu mouthbreathers, so never mind.

I wanted to play this so bad when I was in Japan, I saw some women playing this with their friends, looked like they had a good time.

I wanted my friend to play with me, but he refused and I didn't want to be the only one that sucks at the game.

I fucking regret it.

Please don't, it's terrible. You run into the same problems. I have the privilege of being able to play some games at local arcade and I still wouldn't willingly go into that thread.

Over the years I've accepted while it's my favorite game type it has the world's worst community in existence.

>>
>>337726793
You can play japanese back ups, but I don't think original ones work.
>>
>>337726532
you're probably right about the community being shit, and looking at it it's mostly IIDX, Pop'n and other stuff I don't/can't play because of a lack of access to an arcade anywhere near where I live.

I really wish Taiko wasn't so completely overlooked in the west. Maybe it's the cutesyness and how basic and shallow it looks at a first glance that stops so many people from giving it a fair shot.
>>
>>337727774
It's probably the whole japanese-ness of the whole thing that puts people off.

I remember Donkey Konga was pretty well received, even Samba de Amigo.
>>
>>337727774
Even the taiko community is ass. Last convention I went to there was a taiko machine. "Pro players" stomping new players all day basically ensuring they'll have no further interest in the game. Same with the IIDX machine.

You're probably right. I never thought this was something I'd actually enjoy until because of how Japanese and inpenetrable it felt until I stumbled upon it one day because I was bored and had a hacked 3DS. Ended up being my entry ticket into the world of J-pop, Vocaloid and other stuff I thought I hated.

>>337728023
Sounds pretty shitty. That's the problem with niche rhythm games, they always bring out a bunch of elitist tryhards who need to show off their skill at any given moment.

I hate that I'm always excited to play a taiko game but There usually be only 4-6 songs I only want to play in each game and it usually be from the vidya section since I'm not that much into J-pop and don't like Miku songs (with Senbonzakura being the only one I do like)

I can play most 11's in IIDX, 15's in SDVX and I still play osu! standard more than my AC data because there is a large amount of DnB and Chillstep mapped.

Sorry.

I can finally play the WiiU games
Although I hope you can unlock songs because there are only 3 songs in the variety section when there is normally 10+

>>337731694
They all lack in the variety section. First has 2+1 dlc, second 4+2 dlc and third 3+4 dlc, it also affects that vocaloid songs have their own section now.

That's the same band? Should have realized. I'm starting to really like these guys. It's always good to have some stages that are simply fun.

Fair enough. I recently bought one of the wii u bundles with the plastic drum off amazon jp to play the wii games, and in hopes sometime later they'd be able to crack the region lock.

Time to hack my wii u then.
>>
>>337705324
yeah just get the version with the 1st or 2nd vision songs whichever you prefer. I found it fun for my first tatsujin game.
