Gonna start playing this for the first time, /v/. Are there any mods or anything I need before I start? I heard the controls are pretty shitty, can I change those in-game or does that need something as well? Also general CRPG thread I guess

yeah, the controls are shit, but the inventory is even worse and will give you cancer

I would recommend playing the first game for sure because it takes place a couple weeks after and there are a lot of returning characters. Stick with the original controls you will feel most comfortable in combat with them once you get past the initial hurdle of getting used to them. For gothic 1 I would recommend downloading the playerkit, the system pack, and then the unofficial patch. Just read this thread https://www.gog.com/forum/gothic_series/gothic_series_patches_mods_tweaks/page1

This.
And there are DX11 and texture mods for both games but making them work can be a pain in the ass.

He's playing Gothic II not 1 and it's gold at that too, so the inventory is fine.
You don't need anything, the default gog or gold version is just good enough.
You'll get used to the control, rookie mistake, don't spam attacks, try to combo them together by attacking at the right time.
The higher your weapon skill is, the easier it will be to get that attack flow going. This is a true RPG in the sense that you will fucking suck at combat at first, but get skilled up and you'll notice the difference quite fast.
Anyways, love this game, my favorite one.

Also do quests for all three camps before joining one. New camp best camp

There is absolutely no reason to not use the system pack for gothic 1 or 2.

Find somewhere the original game without expansion. And play it first that way.

Ignore this babby the initial difficulty of NotR is made up with stone tablets and OP weapons like the claw of Beliar.
Anyone looking forward to VD's new gamecoming in about 7 years? I enjoyed Age of Decadence quite a lot, and I really want a good science fiction rpg, but...
This kind of makes me feel like a faggot, but the whole generation ship thing is really off-putting for me. I have this autistic thing about protagonist, the mere idea that my character might get replaced down the line because of old age is enough for me to not even give it a chance.

Play Gothic 1 first it's much easier and it will give you a back story for a second game
AlsoEnjoy,these are great games
>>337689530
That's pretty autistic. I still have to get around to finishing my playthrough of AoD but it's a solid game.

>Age of Decadence
man I played through that when it first came out last year and I gotta say I was really only disappointed by the frequent bugs and weird scifi twist. Coulda at least used mythological gods instead of weird alien shit

DX11 renderer seems to have crashing problems which is a shame because it looks so nice.
>>337690475
Yes, I can't even start playing G1 with it, because it crashes a moment after the intro ends.

I hear version 14 works best for Gothic 1 but it gets rid of the barrier effects. The system pack is good enough though since it improves performance, removes the 25FPS cap, and lets you switch to a high resolution without needing to run a batch file every time you want to play.
I'm planning on joining the mercs in G2 and I was wondering if I should go two handed or one handed weapons? I think I'm going to get an apprenticeship from the smith for weapon crafting too.
>>337689350
I agree. I usually just don't care.
Mind you, I played Gothic 2 since the release. There's really nothing this game can throw at me that I didn't see.
>>337691297
Two handed without a doubt
>>337688512
>I heard the controls are pretty shitty
i have no idea how this started. the controls are perfectly fine for what they are, and even provide depth to the combat. it is a mystery to me, how gothic is considered to have bad controls, when dragon age 1&2 exist on consoles. i dare you play the original dragon age on console. those are shit controls
>>337691542
Two handed it is then.

best choice anon, best choice
>>337688824
This, starting from 2 is just wrong because games are very connected and there are a lot of references. The first game is almost as good as sequel, in some aspects even better.
>>337694054
I liked the prison colony atmosphere of the first game.
