On one hand DeS is pretty murky on PS3 and makes it kind of uncomfortable at this point to play, but I think it's more to do with the graphics engine than resolution, and all HD ports do nothing but up the resolution and insert higher res textures, while DeS need serious rework in lighting.

I think World tendency was fair.
If you play on white tendency, global item drop rate lowers but enemies are weaker. NPCs appear.
If you play on black tendency, global item drop rate increases, as well as the quality of drops, but enemies are stronger and dark spirits roam the world. NPCs are replaced by dark spirit impostors.
I did black tendency on NG+4 on Demons Souls, trying to get my pure blade stone and unique NPC weapons. Made it to NG+5.

I have the opposite opinion. Player tendency affected your max health and damage but are also the determinant on getting the "Friend's Ring" and "Foe's Ring". You absolutely must try to get the Foe's Ring first and Friend's Ring later because if you become an evil person your max HP goes down to 40% max on soul form, but your damage is adjusted up. Sounds good but it affected the cling ring negatively which was the ring that raised your max HP on Soul form. You also must kill invaders and dark spirits to turn your character tendency back to normal. Very hard on later NG+ cycles.
