Modern gaming isn't shit, it's just passable/disappointing. I enjoyed about 5 of the games on that list, there is a few I haven't gotten around to trying but want to, and the rest don't even interest me.
To prove my point: there was a time when a single holiday season was enough for everyone to get excited, now we have to tally up an entire year and hope we get at least 5 good games out of that. That's enough reason to complain about gaming.There still isn't even 5 PS4 games that interest me yet, and that counts its entire lifespan.

You can make a case for liking games today, sure, not all of them are terrible. But the industry isn't in a better state now than it was. If you are a CEO getting crazy $$$ from hollowed husks of worn IPs or free-to-play mobile scams, then yeah, ok. But ask anyone who actually still cares about their job; people who wanted to make games they would find fun to play. The fact that everything has been so homogenized that certain types of games can no longer exist and everything is either a AAA million seller or an indi is kind of bad. Some of the best games throughout the entire industry were the middle ground games; the kind of games that can't exist anymore, and almost all of them were of genres that basically don't exist anymore.
Everyone in the world can wake up tomorrow missing their right leg, and eventually humans would adapt and our society would change, maybe even stabilize, and people would eventually begin to enjoy themselves again. That doesn't mean life is better, that doesn't mean things are better this way, it just means we learned to tolerate life and lower expectations.

I don't give a shit about the state of this "video game industry". I don't care if an evil lizard CEO gets a trillion bucks, if the only types of games are AAA and indie (which is, by the way, completely fucking wrong if you look at Japanese games for just one second).
You want to know how I see this ? One day I see a game. It looks fun. I buy it. I have fun. Or maybe I don't ? I mean it happens.

As someone who hasn't played Monster Hunter, should I start out on 4 or is there one coming to the Wii U I should look into?
Also is it a game where I have to grind and do a lot of shit beforehand or is it something where I can enjoy the difficulty by just playing it (like the souls games)

4 is a great jumping on point.
You only have to grind when you want to craft specific gear for high difficulty, you can get through both easy and normal difficulty with whatever you want though.

I'd highly recommend ProJared's beginners guide to Monster Hunter, it's what I show to friends getting into the series to help them understand mechanics. Nearly all of the info for 3 Ultimate applies to 4 Ultimate as well.
The only Wii U MH is 3 Ultimate which is a great game and still has an active online community. The next MH game (Generations) is coming out in July for the 3DS and is an improved version of 4 Ultimate in most ways.
