It was near the end of disc 1 I think, right after fei fong stupid name gets picked up by char.
The reincarnation bit was alright,but the underlying motives for it seemed really pointless. Like, why go through the trouble of making people to make god a spaceship? Couldn't they just build another starship? What the fuck was up with citan having fei and the girl eat human meat, couldn't he just tell them "Hey these guys use human meat as food, isn't that so evil?" Where the fuck do the non humans fit into the whole spaceship building plan? I know it seems like nitpicking, but the whole story really fell apart after mid disc one

I can definitely understand the hate for Xenogears. That game is half finished, has way too high of an encounter rate, a poor combat system, mixed graphics for the time, and a muddled story (though interesting).

Torment has also always been a baffling case to me because people praise the writing and atmosphere, yet condemn nearly everything else in the game: the combat, mechanics, and how incredibly buggy it is. I get the feeling people who liked Torment are the same people who would like VNs but seem reluctant to get into them.
Also how anybody can praise bad fantasy meets philosophy 101 is beyond me.

The gameplay I'm fine with, but what I don't get about the glorification of Deus Ex is the story. It's dumb as a rock. When I first played it I just sat there in disbelieve and tried to figure out whether it is all a big satire which I have yet to grasp. It actually is below shlock like x-files.

Much of the story is a send up to conspiracy theories, though it mixes that in with some interesting philosophy. I think the levity serves it well compared to MGS which is a pretentious mess.
