While they could have always been better, they it was always a solid competent series. Both NSMBW and NSMBU (and NSLU by extension) especially are very top notch, and when played in multiplayer especially. I always liked them adding in the moves like wall jumping and ground pounds to the 2D moveset.

thats not possible

it stole that mechanic from a superior platformer series

>>337664919

also this is irrelevant because if you actually play any of the NSMB games any area where bottomless pits are a threat very rarely have any walls you can cling to easily to save yourself and even then Mario's jump always has relatively weak horizontal force and not enough control once you're in the air in 2D games so unless its a small gap the walls generally won't even matter
also a lot of 2D marios have powerups that just let you fly or float anyway
>>
>>337663017
same here. Had major depression, started curing it, got my ds fixed, got an R4 card for it (this year), started enjoyed the shit out of that, realized I have to buy a 3ds. Spent more hours and money on the games there than on pc or any other console.
>>

2 powerups that you dont always have and require you to build up speed are nothing like wall clings that you can always do.

It's still just a nostalgia-targeting rehash of 'em mate. Like, I enjoyed the fuck out of it and appreciate the multiplayer (it's only real innovation), but it is what it is.

Also don't forget that they are the only form of challenge in that game, and even then 99% of that game was a fucking cake walk.

I really hope that if Nintendo does another 3D world styled game or really any new Mario game they do what happened with DK:TF make the first two worlds relatively easy, and then actually make decent jumps in difficulty throughout the entire game, instead of making the last bonus world the only semi challenging part of your game.

How sort of easy it is to make a 2D mario game for Nintendo. The sales for each mainline Mario game probably being the most per console. Mario being arguably the largest video game IP.

There are changes here and there but ever since it went polygonal it stayed in a set path, and since it makes Nintendo the most money it is a super lucrative incentive to put one on every console and if they can, more than one.

I really wish that SMM had more, I understand Nintendo didn't want to overwhelm people, but including the ability to string levels together into worlds, and then including enemies like chargin chucks, the sun, etc. on launch would've probably made me never stop playing that game.

Maybe with SMM2 they'll be able to include everything that was in those games, hell maybe even a SM2 palette so you could get phanto's or some crazy shit.
>>
>>337667047
I'm honestly curious to see why you feel that way. I mean I think it's fine to prefer Galaxy 1 over Galaxy 2, but one thing that most people prefer Galaxy 2 over 1, is the increase in challenge the game overall had, and the bigger amount of variety it also had in comparison.
>>
>>337667253
I'll never, ever understand why they didn't continue adding enemies, level themes, and mechanics to SMM. Even for paid DLC. Like, why? They had only to gain, and nothing to lose.

>>337666468
they'll never do that because they're determined to keep mario as sanitized as possible so that grandma, little timmy and the lapsed 40 year old salaryman who hasn't touched a game since SMB3 can play and finish their latest installment
>>
>>337661841
>last entry was absolutely fantastic with the visual design, level design, powerup balance, and cool as fuck overworld map

Not really. NSMBU is visually nice-looking, but as a game it's underwhelming. NSMB could get away with being half-assed because it was the first 2D Mario game in a long time. NSMBW could get away with being half-assed because it was the first 2D Mario game on a home console for 18 years and the simultaneous multiplayer made it worthwhile.

There's no excuse for NSMB2 and NSMBU being so by-the-numbers and aesthetically safe. 2D Mario now gets passed off to a C-team dev with no talent instead of having love and care put into it.

The sky was literally the fucking limit for them, they could've rolled out so much post release content, and I would've fucking eaten it up so damn fast.

They put this game out way too late in the life cycle for the WiiU and probably didn't think it was going to be as big of a hit it was to warrant updates.

If you can recall to 1-2 year old interviews about it, the game was bare as fuck. Barely any info about online sharing and no indication of it even going to exist in the product. Then there was the kerfuffle of people asking nonstop "are the mechanics going to change with the layouts" and given answers that were basically "we don't know".

Like, if Nintendo released this game AT LAUNCH the WiiU probably would've been saved, or at the very least not have bombed this fucking hard. Like naming the damn console the WiiU was the biggest mistake, but SMM literally vindicated the whole fucking gamepad. Then, even if it came out in the same state it was at launch last year. THAT'S 3+ YEARS of possible support. A reason for your main gimmick of your console, and a game that can be fucking expanded on INTO INFINITE, and a user base that is so hungry for new content that you could probably fucking CHARGE FOR EVERYTHING.

It's fucking atrocious how bad Nintendo dropped the ball.

>>337668140
I understand that, which is why I really really want a SMM2 that has EVERYTHING in it.
>>
>>337668336
weird thing is one of the guys responsible for NSMB 2 which is probably the worst entry later helped creating splatoon

so there's creative talent behind the games but it looks like they're purposefully limiting themselves
>>
>>337661841
>>last entry was absolutely fantastic with the visual design, level design, powerup balance, and cool as fuck overworld map

The map was nice but the world design was so paint by numbers. Giant cakes are neat until you realize it's the same desert world from Wii to the letter.

They don't even have to get super creative with this shit. Sonic didn't have a desert level until the third game.
