Would you call Bomberman "cute"? Or "cool"? Either the series or Bomberman himself.
He's the bomb

>not da bomb
One job anon
Bomberman 64 was so cool
What bomberman game was that in gameboy where bomberman gets to collect pokemons?

He's da bomb da digity digity
I lean towards cool, though earlier 8bit/16bit incarnations are definitely cute. I feel like he started to be more "cool" as the 90s 'tude thing went on.
Bomberman always felt like a strange franchise that just maintains an ethereal, ever-present borderline presence at the peripheries of the video game market. He's just always kind of there, but I don't really know why.
I don't really even know why I know him.

Bomberman Tournament?

What? He was at like maximum cuteness in 96.
I'm under the impression he was intended to be "cute" in Japan, but they decided to make him cooler when bringing him over to the West.

Is the series alive? When was the last game released?
Classic. That's the best word I can use.
A mix of both, just like Classic Sonic.
Playing Bomberman Heroes all the way through for the first time, at world 2-3 atm. I won't lie, I hate the water levels, and many times dying setting you all the way back to the begining of the stage bugs the fuck out of me.
