"Miracle of Gertrude, the Heavenly Daughter.

Brings down multiple pillars of light in vicinity.

The Queen's holy maiden Gertrude was visited by an angel, who revealed this tale to her.

Despite losing both her sight and voice, she was determined to record the tale. Ordinary men cannot decipher her fragmentary scrawl, nor comprehend how it became the foundation of the Angelic faith of Lothric."

Something they did fucked her up proper.

>>

No, why do you think that? Nobody knew what the events of DS2 would accomplish, but they had to try. Turns out it didn't do what they wanted it to do, and nothing much changed.

As it stands Dark Souls 2 stands as an unimportant side story in a side area meant to develop the world and the lore and show that there's more going on out there than we thought. It's just world development. Honestly I don't know why so many people hate the story and such. I understand that it doesn't make much sense and, mechanically it has it's flaws but people act like it's existence is an affront. It's just a bit of world development, showing life elsewhere.

Because that's not the Deep dude....

The DEEP is a different thing.

Look at all of this:

http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Deep+Gem

>Deep weapons inflict dark damage, but lose scaling effects. There is a darkness that lies beyond ken.

Compare
http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Great+Deep+Soul

to

http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Affinity

Note that the "Deep" spell is black with blue outline, while "Dark" stuff is black with white. Dark is officially Pygmy / Dark Soul stuff, just like Humanity from DS1 (Black with white highlights).

Compare to
http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Soul+of+the+Deacons+of+the+Deep

Also blue around black.

The deep is explicitly a darkness that is different from humanity.

it's not just "Those fucking sewers below undead burgh."

The Deep comes from the depths, with whatevers at the bottom, where the gaping dragon came from in his boss arena at the bottom of the sewers being the real Deep.

You seem to think i have it confused with the Abyss, which i do not.
Now fuck off.
Not once did i confuse deep or dark.

>>337652741

In fact, look at Aldrich soul

"Soul of Aldrich,
One of the twisted souls, steeped in strength.

Use to acquire many souls, or transpose to extract its true strength.

When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea.
He knew the path would be arduous, but he had no fear. He would devour the gods himself."

This refers to a "coming age of deep sea".

Sounds like "The Deep" to me...
>>
>>337653047

The formatting of this post is annoying, just post anime tiddies if you want attention.
>>
>>337653296
No, I refuse to believe you actually believe the Depths is the Deep. You're a fucking braindead fool if you actually believe that. The Depths were just named that because they were deep below the Burg. It's just a name to denote where they are.

You have to be trolling. You simply must.
>>
>>337650597
>What drove Gwynevere to become Rosaria?
I want to know this too.

I also thought the "Church of the Deep" worshiped the Pigmy's soul, and The Abyss that sprang forth because of it.
>>
>>337653069
Yes.

Essentially, and there have been threads about this.
The church of the deep doesnt worship the deep, its a holding ground for abombinations that pontiff later corrupted and released said abombinations from.
This is referenced by the braille tome you find there.

One can assume that gaping dragon may have also been kept at the church of the deep, or at least, its soul/ whatever caused the dragon to become the gaping dragon.
>>
>>337653296
I didn't insinuate that you had it confused with the abyss, but it is -clearly- the same type of thing as the abyss. It is not just "some sewer below the burgh".

It's a "Darkness that lies beyond human ken"

It's a "a coming age of the deep sea."

I'm just saying it's not the location "The Depths". Maybe it's tied to what fucked Gaping up, he is referred to by: "Gaping Dragon, a distant, deformed descendant of the everlasting dragons."

So something clearly happened, but it wasn't just living in the sewers.
>>
>>337650597
In what way is Rosaria confirmed to be Gwynevere?

Who is Aldrich anyways? Just some priest gone slimey?
I never understood the story behind Pontiff. What did he do to Irithyll and how does it link to Anal Rodeo?

Oceiros is actually Logan from DS1. Think about it you can buy 'White Dragon Breath' with Oceiros' soul and if you killed Logan in DS1 you got 'White Dragon Breath' as well. The white dragon breath spell also states that "old Big Hat, who in his mad, disrobed state, made divine works such as this, his own." . Also, Logan was obsessed with dragons, so he turned himself in to one.

>>337653461
Pontiff has the power that darklurker used to create shadow clones, and darklurker is a reincarnation of the four kings.

Pontiff sullyvahn must be channelling the power of the abyss
>>
>>337653735
My theory is that It's Bloodborne. The usurpation of the fire ending is canon, it begins the age of dark, which leads to humanity slowly rebuilding and prospering for a time. Hundreds of years pass, new civilizations are built and Yharnam is born. Aldrich was right, the coming age of a deep sea came true, only it's not a sea of water, but of stars - the cosmos, and the kin.
>>
>>337653861

>What did Oceiros do to Ocelot that drove the Queen away?
Not even TO Ocelotte, he fucking became mini-me Seath and knocked her up with half-dragon shitbabby again. Then after he went nuts and the place fell apart she left, just like she did when Lordran went to shit.
>Why was Gertrude imprisoned?
Because she started angel worship, and worshiping anything that wasn't part of the recognized three pillars of rule was heretical, so they stuffed her in a cage where she proceeded to write the divine pillars miracle.
>what drove Gwynevere to become Rosaria
She's not Rosaria you cock
Rosaria, Dancer, and possibly Queen of Lothric if she ISN'T Gwynevere herself are all daughters/relatives/handmaidens of Gwynevere.
>Why is Pontiff such a fucboi?
Because he's a moron who thinks making a powergrab matters anymore in an era where everything is going to shit, just like Gwyndolin did way back when.
>>
>>337653638
The Deep and the Abyss are not the same. At least I think not.

So far, we have 3 concepts of Darkness and no one really understand how any of them work.

There's the regular Darkness that arose from the Dark Soul the furtive Pygmy used to create humanity.

There's the Abyss, which lies beyond humanity and is a result of humans trying to harness and control the dark, same thing as the Chaos Flame was to the First Flame.

And then there's the Deep Dark. Which is a different concept entirely from the Abyss, even the spells look different.

Perhaps the DLC will explain more.
>>
>>337653803
Oceiros isn't Logan.

White Dragon Breath:
"Emits crystal breath of Seath the Scaleless. Crystal breath has piercing qualities.

Seath's research seemed to strike a chord with old Big Hat who, in his mad, disrobed state, made divine works such as this, his own. Oceiros was no doubt edified by this."

Oceiros and Logan are explicitly referred to as two different people here.
>>
>>337653638
I think the power of the deep is very clearly there, under the depths.
Depths being a path that leads to the real deep.

Also, i think theres a lot of stuff down there similar to the goop you see lying around aldritch's boss chamber.

The whole thing of the deep power fucking shit into toothy hungry monstrosities is a very common recurring theme here
>>
>>337653803

Though I'm not certain "The Abyss" is different than Pygmy Darkness.

Although I haven't played AotA in a long time.

Deep is definitely something eldrich and grand though.

>>
>>337654254

>>
>>337653984
its not headcannon, if enemies in both games corrupted by the deep share the same exact design of being hungry toothy critters.

I did not say depths is the deep, but it contains the power of the deep for damn certain.
>>
>>337654304
Oh and the fact that Obreck refers to him as "Big Hat Logan" when you give him the Scroll he drops.
I don't know another "Logan" from DS1.
>>
>>337654182
fair point.

Deep = The Depths is a weak correlation.

Gaping Dragon wanting to eat fucking everything and Aldrich being a crazy man eating cannibal is a MUCH more interesting connection.
>>
>>337654304
Please point out to me where it says his name is Logan, because all he is is just a court sorcerer for the Profaned Capital that happens to be a part of the magic school they set up that FOLLOWS the work that Logan put forth.

So help me out here. What's the deal with Irithyll?

I mean there's tons of city we didn't see and explore in DaS1, look. It's under Anor Londo and everthing, I know the few districts of the Burg we trudged through wasn't the only shit. So was Irithyll there all along?
>>
>>337654268
It is eldritch and grand.
When I said this
>>337652741
I am inferring that the depths contains the deep.
You just dont see it in game.
Whatever it is, it fucked up a real dragon though, considering you can get a tail cut from it. there is that cliff in the arena, and it just looks off into dark ess. you never see where the dragon crawled out from. who knows what other horrors are/were down there?
>>
>>337654647
Chances are, Irithyll is relatively new. Think geographically, it is approximately directly in front of and below Aldrich's chamber, which is where you fought Fatty and ThinBoy. Now figure out what was there in DS1.
>>
>>337654647
Not sure about that one. Anor Londo might be where it is just because it was the most major part of the land that the first lord of cinder owned, seeing as all the other lands converging around Lothric are owned by much more recent lords of cinder. Either that, or Pontiff knocked down much of the architecture that existed and put up what he wanted to put up in its place.
That and its been a long ass time since DS1.

If the real Dragons are immortal, and the Fire needs fuel, and the stronger something is the better it works as fuel, why didn't Gywn just stick an immortal Dragon in there to be burned forever instead of offing himself?
>>
>>337653613

There is no evidence that the CoTD existed during or around the events of DS1. The only thing the Deep Tome describes is that the Way of White members occupying the Cathedral fell, with the exception of the Cathedral Knights who are tied to Lothric.

As for the Cathedral being a zoo of fuckways dildobeasts, that they are there is not evidence that they have always been there, nor that it is the purpose of the Cathedral.
>>
>>337654320
Gaping Dragon isn't corrupted by the deep, though. Where does it say that?

He's just a dragon-descendant that got cleaved almost in half, but lived (his axe confirms this). Since then, his eternal hunger has transformed him into the beast you see (according to the artbook).

Aside from the connection in design, I don't see any other connection. I don't see anything else connecting Depths and Deep aside from the words being similar, but I'm sure they're not in Japanese. Just like the arguable translation issues with Sen's Fortress.

>>337654752
The Deep is considered to be the absolute lowest point of anything, where only the dregs of human souls come to rest. So I don't think its in a hole in a sewer that happened to have a massive swamp under it, which had the ash lake under that, and then lava and demons under it on the other side.
Maybe if that hole continued all the way down through ash lake and kept going, but I doubt that.
As it is, the Gaping Dragon was much more likely to have been fucked up by lack of light exposure, pollution and toxicity in the depths/blighttown, and malnutrition.
>>337655068
I don't think that land was conquered by Lothric, no. Aldrich's people seem to be the likely conquerors, though there probably wasn't much left there to conquer, besides Gwyndolin and Yorshka. Remember, the lands of the old LoCs converged ON Lothric, instead of being built around it presently.

As far as I am aware in the lore, they don't.
Black Dragon Kalameet and Gaping Dragon both specifically do not drop a soul.

Seath does, but the description points out it was a fragment of the Lord Soul given to him--
"Seath allied with Lord Gwyn and turned upon
the dragons, and for this he was awarded
Dukedom, embraced by the royalty, and given
a fragment of a great soul."

Furthermore, so much of the lore sets up that the Eternal Dragons are, well, eternal and that the birth of fire birthed the Souls.

I could be wrong, but the evidence seems to indicate this.
>>
>>337655478

Every lord linked the fire once. I think the issue is that Lothric pussied out like a bitch and didn't burn himself alive like the others, which is why Yhorn, Aldrich and the Watchers are rezzed at the intro but not him and his brother.

I think.

The description on that souls reads "Use the dragon soul, created by those who peered into the essence of the soul, to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth."

So the soul was created, likely in the same way that Seath's 'soul' was created.

They're shards of the first human. While the tendency to eat everything is an interesting connection to make, I don't see any other connection between the two. Fun to hypothesize though.
>>
>>337650597
My biggest question is

>what are the lords of cinder?

Why do we need to collect them before we can link the fire? We didn't need to do that in ds1? Why are those 5 guys so important?
>>
>>337656717
The fire hasn't been linked in so long it needs WAY more power.
>>
>>337656717
They're people who had enough strength of flame to link the fire. You're Unkindled, so you've got jack shit besides Embers, which is fleeting strength. You need all them to give up their strength of flame to let YOU link the flame, and the only reason you need all of them and they even got revived is because its crunch time and the flame is just about fucking dead. In DS1, the flame was dying out, yes, but it wasn't in nearly as dire straits as it is here since Gwyn was still keeping it going in some capacity.
>>
>>337656717
in Das1 you had to go around collecting all the great soul fragments to recreate the first soul that Gwyn split. This is so you're strong enough to link the fire.

Same in Das2. Great soul fragments that were scattered.

In Das3 the Unkindled is going around collecting scraps. The great soul is long gone and burnt. Each and every time the fire is re-linked by a "chosen Undead", the fire burns for less and less time.

Das3 is you clinging to the very last remnants of the fire and attempting to keep the age of Dark at bay even for a tiny bit of time.
>>
>>337656828
>>337656878

But the Soul of Cinder boss is explicitly the combined souls of those that linked the fire, including gwyn.

Why did the 5 loss of cinder get to not be a part of that?
>>
>>337656717
>We didn't need to do that in ds1?
We didn't?

Wasn't that essentially filling the lordvessel with the souls of lords and then kill gwyn?

I thought the whole lords of cinder ritual was there as a ritual recreation of what we did in das1.
>>
>>337657126
Oh, I guess that is what let's you into the kiln.

Fair enough. My point stand though. Why aren't they a part of the soul of cinder like all the rest?
>>
>>337657121
Best guess is that the SoC is those who were burned completely away by the flame, like the Chosen Undead. After all, looking at Ludleth shows that he was very near to it when he was either retired from burning or someone else came to take his place.

I'm honestly hoping his story is somehow linked to the Darklurker from Das2 in the DLC. He is SO reminiscent of him it hurts.
>>
>>337657273
They still have souls though. Gwyn explicitly hollowed after linking.
>>
>>337657228
>Why aren't they a part of the soul of cinder like all the rest?
Why would they be? Soul of Cinder is a combination of all our characters from das1 and gwyn.
Maybe they have other lord souls or maybe the ritual just dictates powerful souls.

"Soul of Sinh the Dragon, who sleeps in the lowermost depths of this land."

might Shulva been close to Lordran? we don't go there physically, and the Drakeblood Knights confirm a distinct connection.

might Irithyll was once known as Eleum Loyce?
DaS3 refers to an oracle in the profane capital storyline, and the only oracle i know of was Alsanna.

"Crown of Wolnir, the Carthus conqueror.
Once upon a time, such things were bequeathed judiciously to each of the rightful lords, until Wolnir brought them to their knees, and ground their crowns to dust. Then the crowns became one, and Wolnir, the one High Lord."

he's obviously not the Bearer of the curse, but it's interesting if there's a connection to the crowns he gathered up.

Considering the dlc is not directed by miyazaki it seems fair to assume that we might get all the das2 stuff with the dlc.

These fuckers are VERY similar to Gaping dragon thanks to that wriggling teeth stomach, So here's some questions.
How long has the Pontiff existed?
Does the ring bring the look of dragons or abyss?
What IS the gaping dragon?
And WHY do they have the nearly exact same Teeth stomach?
>>

This shit should have stopped in 1 because now its just uninteresting dull shit like cycles cycles cycles and cycles

None of the endings fucking matter, whats the point in even going on if its just another cycle or age of dark? The whole marketing for "the fire fades" is such bullshit, it doesn't change fucking anything.
>>
>>337657930
The gaping dragon became gaping because he was hungry right?

Like the stomach just said fuck this food going through my head bullshit I need to suck everything I can get right where I need it.

Could be that the pontiff beasts are the same shit but it could also be that the process of turning someone into an outrider knight (which I assume is the middle step before you turn into a complete beast) involves opening the rip cage somehow.

I was hoping the rings would have some sort of debuff. Like make the rings more powerful, but make your hits require more stamina as you keep attacking. Or Make it so your armor/damage reduction is drastically reduced when absorbing HP per hit etc.

Something to actually show the madness those rings cause. Those alligator wolf things are just soldiers who wore one of those rings into battle and lost their sanity. Says right in the description that those who stared into the ring became unstoppable in battle and the rings were only given to soldiers or knights going to far away lands.

the last place we saw Kaathe was in the Abyss, found in the flooded city of New Londo - Kaathe incited the darkwraith problem and it can be assumed he was either trapped there or decided to wait there

following the events of Dark Souls 1 - in which any ending is feasible considering the cycling ages of fire and dark - he used his presence and influence to make the kingdom of Londor from the ruins of New Londo

Yuria lived in this kingdom - it is unknown entirely what Londor is like outside of having a very cloak-and-agger church - and is sent to Firelink Shrine as an agent of kaathe as it becomes apparent that the fire may yet be linked again

there's several possibilities

one is that frampt and kaathe are trying to foil each other and their conflict of interests has caused the cycle (frampt succeeds in having someone link the fire either personally or through influence, kaathe introduces the dark age by manipulating a potential candidate)

the other is that they are working together to keep a cycle of fire and dark, for fear of what may come to exist in the absence of either

>the dragons only knew grey, and came to fear the age of fire
>the gods only knew fire, and came to fear the age of dark
>the humans have known both, but endure regardless
>the serpents have known both the grey, the fire, and the dark

What are they afraid of?
>>
>>337660985
that's true. I always did wonder what made a fire keeper. Like I said though, I still hope she has some type of major role to play.
>>
>>337660928
what is that from? It's not even in the wiki. One of the hidden game items buried in the code?
>>

It's a mace though.

Track always gets me emotional, I didn't want to kill them.
>>
>>337661173
but the gods also knew what the gray-times were like. they found the fire in the gray and that's what made them cool kids

but the serpents are still in the know of things. who's to say they weren't doing something else in the age of dragons? there's clearly some sort of society/civilization structure given that they have the capability to exclude a being such as Seath the Scaleless

hell i'll bet you frampt or kaathe was the one who pushed Seath to betrayal

No dipshit, she was sealed away in the tower because eygon took her to become a firekeeper but she couldn't because she is tainted. She's locked away because she's a failure and eygon's a dick for doing it seeing as how he was going to kill her anyways.
>>
>>337661525

>dipshit

why the hostility tho, you'd do well to grow as a person.

Then i wanna ask you why he goes and offs himself when her task is completed? Or why he tries to take her away if you buy dark miracles from her? Because he could've easily killed her at any point, But he didnt, Because it's his fucking mission to keep her safe until the task is completed.

>What did Oceiros do to Ocelot that drove the Queen away?
>What drove Gwynevere to become Rosaria?
Same thing, Ocelotte was stillborn as a hollow. Queen, who has the same relation to Gwynevere as Rosaria (i.e. can be the tittymonster herself or some descendant of her) has turned into "mother of rebirth" because she seeked ways to revive her lost baby. Cathedral of the Deep was initially a monument to the King's grief, there are even statues of a winged dude who looks like he's crying, holding "nothing" in his hands there. This pose is eerily similar to Oceiros both during the first phase of the bossfight and on the achievement art. It explains the cries during Oceiros fight too, the child is a never aging little undead shit. Invisble because half-dragons and shit.

DLC is basically garunteed
>>
>>337661827
Yeah but miyazaki is not attached.
So who gives a fuck?
>>
So considering how some of the corpses in demon ruins and oceiros looks, can we confirm that Bloodborne is part of the souls lore now?
>>
>>337661769
because he cares about her

all of eygon's interactions from the moment he realizes you opened her cage is him trying to act like he doesn't give a shit

but if he didn't give a shit, why would he keep showing up to firelink and making sure she's alirght?

i assume he kills himself because of the guilt of being a humongous asshole towards her. a sense of letting her down because, ultimately, a complete stranger helped her become who she was meant to be
>>
>>337661961
I just assumed irina offed the fucker for all the torment he's caused. I mean she was already tainted and couldn't be a firekeeper and why you can't give her the eyes.
>>
>>337661961
and the reason he takes her away is that when she's reading the miracles of the dark and the deep, she goes a little crazy with fear and despair at understanding the darkness

eygon takes her away because he loves her and has had enough of you, the cunt who is making her read these spooky stories so he can fight better

it can be assumed that the effect of reading dark/deep miracles is the same feeling that our firekeeper gets when you give her the eyes and she sees the dark for the first time

1:47 is great shame this was probably the least memorable boss in the whole game

The Lothric Castle itself is Logan. If you take aerial shot from above, you can see the map form his face.

Seath and Gwynevere become jealous of Big Hat Logan during DS1. The game assumes you met with Logan right after you get to meet Seath, and thats why Seath has this slighty blueish hue, because when you mix Gwyn's golden soul with green, you get blue. And that green you see is his envy.

At the end of DS2, Seath and his wife Gwynevere captured Logan and turned him into Lothric Castle, on the exact same spot where you find him the last time on DS1. Seath then used his Moonlight Butterflies to form Twin Sages. You can see the Twin Sages looking remarkably similar to Logan, but thats just a trick Seath pulled by giving his minions hats. Fooled me first time, till I realised they had the same move set from butterflies, they just couldn't fly becouse of the hats keeping them down.

It is likely Seath used the Transformation Kiln to do all of this, since the Kiln can be found at the Rotted Great Tree boss, that has also been transformed from witch of Izalith to a tree. It also explains why we didn't see any other Twin Sages, since the Moonlight Butterfly cocoons hanging from the Great Tree have rotted.

Its kind of interesting how Nito, after having never known Seath before, is now against Seath on DS3. You can find Nito's new skull lair right below the Rotted Great Tree, from where he rotted the tree and stopped one of the witches from becoming the new Demon King. Theres also an NPC thats wearing the remains of one of the hats ment for the butterflies over his armor. Its possible that he is actually Nito in disguise, since you can see all the skulls there that didn't quite fit in the armor with him.

The armor Nito is wearing is also reference to the Paladin that guarded Nito in DS1. Its the little things From does for their games.

Hopefully the DLC we get is going to explain what happened to the rest of Nito's men and why is he going against Seath the Scales.

My guess is that Ludleth, the Watchers, Aldrich, and Yorm were all had their ages one after another, so their ashes can be revived in full physical form. Anyone earlier than them goes to the Soul of Cinder, who is basically scraps. Strong scraps, but not ideal.

He's so fucking mad at you when she becomes tained because of the promise Irina speaks of when you touch her while wearing Eygons Gloves, She tells you to kill her, So they knew the day might come when she becomes corrupt.
>>
>>337654054
Similarly there with fire, you fire that rose from the first flame, and the chaos flame that came from Izalith.

So So we have the Fire and dark, and Chaos and the abyss. But then we have the deep which has no correlation, all we know it is a "holy" land of sorts, in Dark souls 3 the two IMO most important things in understanding what the Deep is

Human dregs:
>Dregs are the heaviest things within the human body, and will sink to the lowest depths imaginable

And the spell Great Deep Soul
>Archdeacon McDonnell, a sorcerer himself, delighted in the cathedral's stagnating souls. For him, they represented the glorious bedrock of this world.

My guess that the Deep is most likely the origin point of man or the world itself, a place that later became corrupted by whaterever found it

He turned the entire game into DaS1 fanservice. If he's out of the picture, we might actually get something interesting.
>>
In the end you have the option to steal the fire or something, and then you can kill the firekeeper or leave the flame with her. What would be the purpose of each choice? Can't say I understood that shit.

Dima is Nick Valentine's brother and the endings are to replace the children of atom leader with a synth, nuke Far Harbor or the children, or kill DIMA. Red death is a mirelurk. Far Harbor DLC ending.
