Why did the Witchers creating new members?
It's not like theres no longer a need for them; monsters are everywhere.
If you break it down, I believe its something like 7 out of 10 people subjected to the trial die painful deaths. But those 3 that live go on to kill numerous monsters. Just doesn't make sense that nobody wants the Witcher schools to continue.
Not to mention at the end of Witcher 3 due to Geralt, the common folk should view Witchers as heroes. So there is no longer a need to fear peasant uprisings.

It's been a year since I read the books and played the first game but what I remember is this:
1. Propaganda against Witcher lead to an attack on the school of the Wolf (Geralt's group)
2. Many died in the attack
3. Some question about if a child has to be fated or not (Law of Surprise) so it's not like they can just take any orphan and bring them to train.
Though that last part is in question. In the books Geralt doesn't really believe in it but tests it out anywayThat's how he ended up tied to Ciri's fate
So invoking the LoS could get you a Witcher recruit or it could get you a cow.
To invoke the LoS it's something like this

Something like that. If its a baby, that baby is now tied to that specific witcher. Boom, new Witcher recruit
Convoluted and not really explained if it was actually needed to produce a witcher at all because Geralt (if I remember right) was sold to the witchers by his mother for magic or something like that. It's all very vague how Geralt was given to the Witcher school and Geralt himself never got a clear answer when he met his mother.

OP here, I recently replayed Witcher 2 about a week ago, beat it, then started replaying Witcher 3 and have almost beaten it again. I find myself more absorbed in the Witcher series than any other RPG so I would say its worth it. However i can see how starting over could be daunting, especially if you hadn't beaten it a first time and felt like you were just retreading ground to get to where you were before.

this is loved the previous dlc, it wasnt just more story but that they fixed issues people had with the shit beforehand. Everyone loved the starting armor so they made a version of it, everyone wanted better boss fights so we got it, everyone wanted more varied enemies so we got it.

I would love a multiplayer Witcher game that gets it right. Somehow they manage to have a player driven world, full of kingdoms and people of all classes. Maybe interaction is always a list of dialogue options, tailored to the personality of your character. I always think about a game like that being made when playing through the Witcher. i just did one play through, ill never understand doing a second play through in games unless its the witcher 2 where 90% of the game is different. The choices in witcher 3 are different but just not enough to warrant me dropping another 100 hours. For me it was because it'd been a year since I'd played it. I had forgotten some parts of the story and it was fun to go back through the game getting exactly the outcome I wanted, rolepaying the Geralt I had previously decided was the correct one.

pretty much, side by side theyre the same but the main issue was that everyone thought the starting armor was sexy as fuck but you run into the issue of looks vs stats, you need to upgrade if youre to survive. Unlike the other armor sets the starting armor doesnt have upgrades and mastercrafted versions so this was just like a "heres the original but now with stats to match"

there is a need, but civilization has been prospering which means that cities are better suited to protecting themselves. witchers are in turn put at a disadvantage. unlike the games, mosters aren't always lurking around and disrupting daily life in a town. they make their rounds for a yearly rotation and that about covers their demand.
also many of the methods for attaining the witcher mutations have been lost, which puts the rest of the current schools off from even trying to make new additions.

No one knows how to make more. Yen did figure out part of the trials but she wouldn't make more Witchers due to what would happen to the kids. Same goes for Eskel and Geralt and Lambert. None of them even want to attempt to find out how to make more Witchers as they don't want to condemn people to that life. Plus there is literally no need for Witchers anymore. Geralt constantly bitches about how hard it is to actually find witcher work. Monsters are getting pushed further and further away from civilization and there isn't that much left, something ends and something begins and the era of the Witcher is over. Eskel will probably be the last operating Witcher.

For one, in the books there weren't as many monsters as the game has (it would be way more boring). Half of Geralt's brooding is how he's obsolete in current year and how his continuing work will only make him more obsolete - his end goal is no monsters after all.The other half is mother issues and Yennefer.

When I played it some 8 months ago the game was still unbalanced as fuck, meaning you would get overleveled as soon as you did a small number of quests aside from the main story quests, making the game extremely easy.
