Has /v/ ever been to an arcade?
>>
I go to the Round1 by me every so often.
>>
>>337643914
yeah, my city has a huge arcade above the markets
>>
I attend and run fighting game tournaments at a game store that is also stuffed with arcade machines. They have a Super Turbo and 3rd Strike cabinet, bunch of rhythm games, a couple combination cabinets (one is all NEO-GEO games, pretty neat), and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA FUCKING TURTLES.

I love it there, but it's about an hour's drive for me. The only arcade relatively close to me went to shit a few years ago. Walking in there just depresses the hell out of me.

Yes, but not very often. In fact, I spent my 18th birthday at a Dave & Buster's, if that counts.

Most of my experience with arcade machines came not from an actual arcade, but from the local roller rink when I was in elementary school. I still remember seeing CarnEvil and Killer Instinct there.

>Best way to do this? How much of it was prebuilt? Specs? I'd love to do this as well

You can build a cabinet for about $50-$100 if you've the tools and understanding for woodworking, although if you've no experience like me, you can usually find an empty cabinet on Ebay, cheapest being $50 to $150 for reasonable prices. There's plenty of public guides if you do decide to build one though.

The CRT I got at Google for dirt cheap, I used an old computer I had (2gb, Vista, integrated gfx, etc) and ordered an interface that simply plugs into the computer. I'd give you more details but I'm feeling garbageassy and tired, sorry Anon. Best of luck to you though, it's extremely satisfying!

Almost completely mastered Time Crisis 3 at a local arcade. Even put together a Wild Dog outfit that I sometimes wore trying to do a 1CC run. If I did wear it, it was almost a guarantee that that if someone was looking by watching, they'd stop to try and figure out what's going on.

I'm not sure about that one but they did destroy pacman, mortal kombat, and metal slug.

No it's not ya dingus, these are modern 16:9 flatscreen monitor cabs made for 3D fighters and shit.
I know DOJ's internal aspect ratio is something weirdly tall, but it's made to be played on a 4:3 and the graphics are designed to squish down to the right proportions.

Came back from the Vegas expo in cashmen right now

I remember why I loved arcades and hated them too

Pros:fun as shit, very social I can't believe how often I was actually interacting with people face to face rather through a keyboard
Cons: tryhard at every level , ruin the atmosphere

I was watching a buddy of mine play SF4 and this dude was using ibuki against a novice balrog , he spammed the move where ibuki sweeps your feet , I saw this guy beat 4 guys this way and when he finally lost he walked away immediately

Not even a "good game" or anything

Same shit near this MKX cabinet , played as aztec guy and did the Aztec sword swing a thousand times to win

Speaking of aztecs there was small booth for aztez a game that I saw at e3 once
Very easy to pick up and play but almost too simple

There used to be a great free play one when I was in junior high/high school (so like 15+ years ago). Owner was cool, there was a small group of regulars where he'd just let us hook up an imported Dreamcast to play MAHVEL all night on Fridays. Eventually turned into a general game store/game rental place that was still pretty good, then he got divorced, his wife took all his money and he had to shutter it.

Of course there is an Ocean Hunter full cabinet. Those reports that say it's rare as fuck are not really credible. Only in my city there should be at least ten.

that was fate's way of inspiring you to become a pro fighting game player to make up for that experience. come on, man.

When I was growing up, I went to real arcades in the early to mid 90s. They've all been shut down since then.

Real arcades where you can smoke and all you smelled was tobacco, it was dark, and people gathered around one machine.
>>
I used to go to the arcade and play all the light gun games. Lucky and Wild was my favorite when I was a kid. They had the full size cabinet shaped like a Ferrari and it even had seatbelts it was cool.

are you sure it wasn't fate's way of telling him to go on /v/, complaining that the motion for the dragon punch is "artificial difficulty"?

i walked 5 miles from my hotel in vegas to go to one
needless to say,the tekken 5 cabinet they had was pretty cool

whats with every single one of vegas' arcades having mvsc2?
>>
>>337643914
Yep, many, many times growing up.
Was a really great experience.
If someone wanted to talk shit, it had to be to your face and not online.
Never ran into any shit talking eight year olds in an arcade, not like all the little shits online these days.
Besides that though, it is a whole different atmosphere and much more fun than sitting around at home everyday.
Last time I went to an arcade was about two years ago, and then I moved, but growing up I was hanging around like a fly on shit.
>>
yes, and if i had one nearby/locally, i'd be there a lot

No, CPS3 were rare because the whole system was expensive as fuck, the actual hardware also has a shitty protection system where it KILLS ITSELF if it detects tampering, and the battery has a set life expectancy, if I recall correctly when the battery life runs out the game will destroy itself because of how shit the whole thing was coded, also the hardware breaks down easily

CPS3 was a fucking disaster, no wonder why it only had 6 games (Heritage, Venture, Warzard, SF3 1-2-3)

lakewood, ca? i go there once in awhile

i used to go to nickel-nickel and mall arcades all the time

I go to the one in Lakewood sometimes as well. The rhythm games and occasional rail shooter alone make it worth it.

I go to Nickel City. They used to be owned by Capcom.

>if I recall correctly when the battery life runs out the game will destroy itself because of how shit the whole thing was coded
No, that was intentional. Capcom had that in CPS2 as well, since it was an easy way to upsell operators. CPS3 was a failure due to the financial hit operators would have to take, and the home video game market getting better and better ports.

Sega sold off Gameworks, iirc. Some other company owns the brand and locations now. The one in Vegas is a complete shadow of the old one that used to be by MGM Grand.

Theres a small place called Flashback right around my area. been there a couple times. arcade cabinets, consoles you can play while there, as well as the exclusives to compliment them, a place to sit down and eat (bring your own damn food) air hockey table, and to top it all off, a fully stocked bar

The best thing about Nickel Nickel was it had arcade games you could never find anywhere else.

That game where you had to slam into each other was the shit.

>Has /v/ ever been to an arcade?
My best friend's grand father used to run Mr. Arcade back in the 90's. It was in a huge store front and had a shit load of cabinets, and in the front his uncle used to hook up the SNES and PSx, and then the N64 when that came out.

You would pay $5 and you could play all day, so my parents used to drop me and my younger brother off and we'd play arcade games all day with my best friend and hang out.

There used to also be a Tilt arcade in the mall so when we'd go see movies sometimes we'd go play there. But they closed down when I was in middle school.

The gameworks in Ontario is a hollow shell of what it once was. It's the saddest thing i've ever seen. A friend and I went to one while visiting Colorado and they actually have e-sports internet cafes built into the newer ones, which was weird as shit to see

I literally lived in one when i was 18-25
I scrapped for whateevr coins I could get just to be able to play metal slug x and 4 since those I could finish most of the tie with a single coin and gather crowds usually.
Also Alien vs predator was my other choice, for CPS1.
When I had cash to burn, I played DDR extreme or operation varth.
