You don't have to break the game. Plus the game is barely about combat at all. It's more character interaction and story than grinding. Best music and how story is presented in final fantasy for sure. It feels like a slice of life simulator

When I first played it when it came out I completely smashed the game with junctioning and turning cards into mats without meaning to. It's a fairly trivial complaint, but I've never liked gimping myself intentionally for 'challenge runs' or whatever. If it's in the game, I want to use it.

It's what a sandbox type game is for. Ff8 is as close to sandbox as any final fantasy Game gets. It's the morrowind of final fantasy. Extremely difficult when gimped. Broken when manipulated. It's a perfectly fine system and allows for multiple playthroughs using different scenarios

Absolutely everything else ranging from mechanics to plot and the cast were intolerably bad. It's the second worst FF game next to FF2.

FF8 takes place in an fucking amazing universe but it's wasted on some cheesy '90s teen love story.
The love in Xenogears was better than any Final Fantasy, at least Fei and Elly canon had sex.
In my mind, FF8 might have the best atmosphere of all FF games.
It's a shame how its draw system was a drag and how you basically have to steal from every boss to make sure you don't miss summons.
I did quite like its summon stat boosts though. They are imbalanced as fuck, but they do give me a feel of progression
