Sup /v/? Any pointers on fighting Father Gascoigne? Cunty bitch just killed me with like 6000 blood echoes because I didn't realize I was about to stumble into a boss.

I'm new to Dank Souls but picking this up slowly.
>>
>>337635221
Use your gun.
>>
Am I the only one who thought that the hunter fights were easy? I could never beat the larger bosses but the hunters play like like 10 year olds using OP characters. Strong moves but shit at the game. You do have the bell thing though right?
>>
First half of the fight he has relatively the same tools as you, learn your toolkit and get gud. 2nd half hes a beast, put him down hunter.
>>
>>337635501
Well shit I have no idea how to use that for anything but luring. Are you talking about parrying, or are you talking about shooting him for damage?
>>
>>337635858
Parrying.
>>
>>337635648
I do have the bell but I forgot I had it because I'm playing offline so...no help in this case.
>>
>>337635221
Practice your parries until you can reliably parry every time, then go practice the timing on Gascoigne.

Don't feel bad about dying a lot and every time you die ask yourself what happened and why (unless the game went fucky, which happens) and you'll be fine. If you can beat him, you can beat the game.
>>
>>337635943
Damn. The only one of my friends who played this said he beat the game without ever really figuring that out. I haven't either.
>>

Try and learn efficient sidestepping, because it will be really helpful for a lot of human enemies. Watch your distance to keep him locked on.

He has fairly straightforward combos so try and get him just as he starts one and quickly dash away. It's definitely very hit and run with how quick he is.

Don't overcommit to attacking. Unless you're trying to duke it out to regain health, it's better to create space if you get some good hits in.

For his 2nd phase, mash that dodge hard. Note that if you want to be risky, you can stun with gun -> forward r1 JUST as he attacks you.

You might die a couple more times, but you'll feel like the beez neez man.
>>
>I'm new to Dank Souls
then why did you start with the fourth installment?
>>
>>337636023
>>337635943
How do you parry? Like literally, from the beginning, I have never understood this since I picked it up.
>>
>>337636109
desu I didn't even realize it was a Souls game when I picked it up. I asked one of my bros (same one who later said he never learned how to parry) for a suggestion for a new game and he said this.

Um...with your gun? Basically you just shoot an enemy before their attack lands. Gascoigne in particular has a charge up attack that glows and whistles when he's about to start spinning, shoot then.

Seriously though I can't tell if you're baiting me or not.
>>
>>337636265
guess you're both shit then
shoot enemy while it's in the middle of an attack
>>
>>337636351
Kek no I'm not baiting, and I know it uses the gun bruh, I just have no clue how to time it.
>>
>>337636439
Right before they hit you. It helps to watch the hand, not the weapon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISmAUPmLdiI This might help, too.
>>
>>337636439
The exact moment is different for each foe but generaly just before their attack would hit you you want your bullet hitting them. The big dudes along the side or the ware wolfs on the bridge of the first area are good practice for papa guacamole
>>
>>337636551
>>337636439
So it's shoot when they start to swing their weapon, then follow it up with an R1 attack, then do that for 25+ hours and beat the game.
>>
>>337636109
>>337636265
to be fair, bloodborne is standalone enough to play without needing to play the other games
>>
>>337636695
I guess that's true, but you can really see the evolution from game to game when you start with des and end with das3
>>
Hey op don't forget to keep chatting with the window dude near the lantern. He's got a good gift if you go arcane.
>>
Is there a point to fighting Paarl aside from getting Djura's shit?
>>
>>337635221
Use the music box.
>>
>>337636551
>>337636625
>>337636645
Thanks I'll try that out. I've been using the extended version of the axe so I'll have to try adjusting that. Guess those blood echoes are bye bye but that's this game for ya.
>>
>>337636854
Dark Souls 3 feels like a How We Got Here game.

parrying in this game was fucking easy. I can't parry for shit in DS3. How is it done famalam? Am I missing the audio queue?
>>
>>337635221
Sorry OP I meant the music box?
>>
>>337636909
If you don't want to kill him, no. I've skipped Paarl in at least four playthroughs.
>>
what type of build are you trying to do OP?
>>
>>337636952
Parry on DaS games feels like a side mechanic while on bloodborne the freaking weapons exists solely for parry.
>>
You can use the headstones to block his shots. In second phase you can use the music box to stagger him for free damage
>>
>>337637021

I'm just getting frustrated, he's like the one boss that fucks me up and I don't know why

Doesn't help that literally nobody co-ops that area too so I cant just cheese

Playing for the first time aswell and im right after the 3 shadows of yharnam of w/e their name was
I feel overleveled but havent farmed once
maining ludwig's holy blade and probably not gonna switch from it which is why i did that stupid shit to my STR/SKL which i might regret later.

also is it worth it upgrading my pistol if im not putting into bloodtinge at all?
>>
>>337635221
Use the Music Box the little girl gives you when he turns into a beast to stun him.
>>
So I know if you lose your blood echoes, you can only get them back if you get to them before dying a second time, but what if you die a second time to the same enemy? Like if I keep fighting Gascoigne until I kill him, will I get them back?

I don't expect that to happen even if it's technically possible, I'm just wondering for future reference.
>>
>>337637103
agreed. BB parry was essential in mastering the game, it is core gameplay. You're telling me that in DS it is not?

He's completely optional, so you could always come back to him later. It does mean you have to do some grinding elsewhere and get enough echoes/souls to buy the key to the cathedral ward early, but Old Yharnam is actually an optional area in terms of main-game progression.
>>
>>337637284
If you die, you drop your echoes. If you die going to those echoes they are lost. No way around it.
>>
>>337637015
>>337637271
I don't have the music box. Just checked.
>>337637062
Using the axe and pistol, mostly strength and vitality so far. Was told that was the way to go for a newfag.
>>
>>337637173
Not really. Bloodtinge boost gun damage, but low bloodtinge doesn't mean your gun isn't still viable for parrys and interruptions. But I mean, shit, if you have nothing else to upgrade you might as well.
>>
>>337637393

Explore the levels some more. If you haven't killed papa but don't have the box you haven't done everything you can do. There are missable encounters in this game so be sure to look everywhere you can between bosses
>>
OP again, so regarding parrying, if you do it all the time the way it sounds like most of you do, isn't running out of ammo a problem? I know there are bullets all over but 20 doesn't seem like much of a max.
>>
>>337635221
Use molotov cocktails on his final form. His first form is easy as shit.
>>
>>337637558
10-4 thanks man. I thought I had done a pretty good job exploring but maybe not as good as I thought. Guess I can explore and practice parrying at the same time though.
>>
>>337637357
Is easily go throught a DaS game w/out parry anything than in bloodborne, to me it seems that monsters have more openings and momentums to parry on BB than any mob on DaS

>mfw I discovered parry on DaS just because I was having troubles with Gwyn and I heard everyone say "Gwyn Lord of parry."
>>
>>337637568
Self made blood bullets should be your main projectile rather than the quicksilver ones. The trick is to bleed yourself for bullets then attack for the rally health back. Free shots.

His first form raped my face, twice. Pic related, it's my face.
>>
>>337637740
Can you explain that in more detail? I think I had seen somewhere in the game about using blood for bullets but had forgotten about it until reading this post.
>>
>>337637393
yeah, that's a pretty standard build.
I was a little upset at first because I always play mage/sorcerer in all the regular souls games for my first playthrough.
Since I thought there was no magic, I decided to try to do a gun heavy build. I didn't know that gun damage scales off of bloodtinge, so my starting stats had super shit bloodtinge.
If you had the blunderbuss instead, you would literally have the exact same moves as gascoigne
>>
>>337637847
It's been a while but it's pretty much just hit down on the dpad for the blood bullets then smack some fag for the rally health back.
>>
>>337637881
>>337637969
My bloodtinge is fucking 7. Should I put leveling my physical shit on hold for a bit and get that up a little? Sounds like yes? Shit I'll just list them all. Vitality 15, Endurance 14, Strength 18, Skill 10, Bloodtinge 7, Arcane 7
>>
Whoa I just parried/countered on one of those big ogre fucks and that was sick. I like this. Thanks /v/!
>>
>>337638194
Nah don't bother with tinge unless you want to have the bullets be a damage dealer and even the I think it's a dedicated build thing. You can pary just fine with the starter pistol all the way to endgame with shit tinge

What weapon do you have OP?

Really it's mostly about learning to dodge his attacks

But I'm the guy who had the most trouble with Rom
>>
>>337638630
>I'm the guy who had the most trouble with Rom
Are you me? I hated that fucker.
>>
>>337638504
Oh okay cool, got it.

Someone earlier (can't find the post) said to practice parrying on the werewolves. How exactly does that work? Do they have a tell that I'm not seeing? I have avoided them completely up until now.
>>
>>337638721
>Beat Ludwig first try
>Beat Orphan of Kos first try
>spent 2 hours on Rom

Fuck that boss.
>>
>>337638630
I have the axe and yeah as I said above, my friend who told me to get this also said he never really figured out parrying but he also beat it.
>>
>>337638725
Watch the raised claw or jaws about to snap they are pretty easy compared to some other guys and be ready to farm those blue eye variants at the chapel later!
>>
>>337637173
You don't need that much endurance, upgrade vitality and strength or skill.

Unless you're looking for an extra challenge because the game becomes easy when you have a huge lifebar
>>
>>337638925
Kek not seeing that shit at all but I'll see if I can find a video. I've been patient enough to figure it out up to this point.
>>
>>337639115
Skill depends on the weapon, right? Isn't it basically useless for axe-wielders?
>>
>>337639178
It's much easier to just keep trying untill it works than to watch a video or something IMO.

You will get it eventually. Give the saw a shot sometime too, serrated weapons get an extra bonus aganst beast type does
>>
>>337639357
I actually did just make it work once, before dying of course. This would be easier if there weren't two of them at once, but I guess easy would miss the point.
>>
>>337637359

All you need to do to skip the emblem is kill BSB not Paarl

I'm actually starting to feel the pain /v/
This guy is an absolute nightmare
Probably the worst boss I've ever encountered. Every other Soulsborne boss I've had trouble with has at least been a challenge, Micolash is just bullshit.

>incredibly long, drawn out fight
>chasing him through the halls until he goes to the right area
>first half is piss easy, second half gives him a one hit nearly undodgeable attack
>constantly have to replay the first half only to get instakilled 30 seconds in to second form
>only strat is to stay close to him, which isn't always the easiest thing

I've heard you can cheese him with poison though, but I'm not sure how. Gonna go try again now.
>>
>>337640073
Try beast roar. If you can keep him on his ass second form is a lot easier.
>>
>>337639257

Axe is an all around good starting weapon. It's a multitasker until you get your first build specific weapon. Like when I hit Old Yharnam on my new skl/blt run. Went straight for the Rifle Spear.
>>
>>337639257
Axe wielders are shit. But yes, it is useless for them. Try using a real weapon next time, son.
>>
>>337640073

Combo > backup > combo etc.

He will always use that spell after you finish your combo so gtfo
>>
Is it even possible to get the MLGS early or would Ludwig just rape my asshole with his giant horse dong
>>
>>337640073
when he does that attack dodge 'towards' him, the way the spell works makes it easier to dodge the closer you are to him
>>
>>337640073
Stop being a bitch and get right in there and fuck his shit up. It's not hard, just don't think in the Dark Souls mindset of attack, retreat, attack. It's literally all offense.

>>
>>337640361
I don't own the game but I assume standard rules apply; if you get good enough to get by with just weapon upgrades and such, you dan fight anything and kill it.
>>
>>337640073
To dodge A Call Beyond, you need to dash forward through the projectiles. Dodging to the side will not work. Very easy move to evade once you understand this.
>>
>>337640073
There, fucking finally. Probably my least favorite boss of them all. The whole big area is cool the first two times, but after that it gets pretty annoying pretty quick.
>>
>>337635221
You can run up the ledge on the back of the map and run off the roof/ledge at the end of the path and fall off. Just wait for him to fall behind you and you can hit hit with a strong attack. Rinse. Repeat. He'll follow you every time.
>>
>>337639257
pretty much. If you're just going to stick with the axe and/or other heavy strength based weapons, you dont have to worry about skill too much. might have to put a few levels in it to hit the minimum requirements of a sepereate strength weapon you want.

I remember my first Gas victory. I did this but his phase two form got caught of the fence geometry. Spam tricked saw cleaver R2 to win.

So what's with the story of this game, anyway? I seem to gather some sort of demonic plague happened to this city or some shit, but that's kind of vague. When do you start getting into more detail?
