Every character in Uncharted is poorly-written.

Drake beats up trained mercenaries in every single game in the series, including 4 if you count Shoreline. In the second game he fights guys in full armor plating, taking off their helmets in one combo and then knocks them out with a punch. 3 Starts off with him beating up an entire bar full of able bodies muscular men and a 7 foot behemoth. Uncharted 3 even has several other fight encounters where Drake has to fight over 10 guys at once and a bunch of other brutes all by himself.
It makes for terrible gameplay if where is no way to beat the woman in a fight that's actually happening in real time. having no win//fail state differences makes it literally an interactive cutscene that is all style over substance. You may as well just drop the controller and let her punch you until the segment ends. There should be a way to beat her, no matter how hard it is, and the game should play differently from there on for it.

If you replaced Nadine with someone like Lazarevich it would be way more believable. He's not only bigger than Nathan, but he's wider and much more muscular than him. He's also well trained and knows how to fight. Being forced to lose an encounter against someone like him wouldn't feel so retardedly ham fisted.

He actually does kind of "Beat" Rafe at one point. He ends up getting his sword to Rafe's throat before Rafe sneaks a slice at his stomach and tosses his sword away. He really only gets disarmed once.

I like Rafe because he actually has a good motive. He basically wants to validate himself to the world, and prove he earned something with his own efforts, and not be some guy who's only rich because of his family. And they hint at it, throughout the game as he definitely gets angry whenever something along those lines ever gets brought up. Great voice and mannerisms as well.
