Not really. It requires precise timing and an ability to predict enemy movements to deflect projectiles. Being blasted is only lethal if you're standing next to a cliff. It has the tiny range of the flame thrower, and doesn't even deal any damage like all the other knock-back weapons do.

Which mêlée weapon? The Axtinguisher was nerfed to death so most puff-and-sting Pyros use the flare gun now. If a Pyro manages to get close enough for a mêlée hit, he'd be better off using his flame thrower than a mêlée weapon.

How long has it been since you played this game? Axtinguisher was nerfed into kingdom come, and it's not the only thing they nerfed. Groundstalling is gone, reflecting projectiles at point blank does more damage to YOU than your target, Degreaser's weapon switch bonus has been decreased, etc. I'm a former Pyro main, and I can tell you that he is without a shred of a doubt the worst class in the game by far right now.
At least the Spy unlocks got decent buffs. Pyro has literally gotten nothing but nerfs for the past four years despite being garbage before the nerfs.

Why does Pyro need nerfs because one class is annoying for him even though he can handle the other seven perfectly fine? Airblast is easy to bait, and being on top of him forces him to eat his own reflect which does 140 to you but 160 for him (I reflected a rocket at full health and it collided with a player model and left me with 15. I fucking shit you not), and his chubby player model results in him eating shotgun meatshots for days.
Why go through the effort of backstabbing someone when you could front stab someone across the map and instantly kill them?
