The best games were third party exclusives.
If you look at the first party games it's the same Gran Turismo, Naughty Dog, Insomniac bullshit that are on the PS3 and PS4. SotC was great though.
Games like MGS, GTA, Final Fantasy, DmC, Ace Combat, etc. could have been ported to the PC, Xbox and Gamecube. Third party developers just chose to push behind a single platform.
the Playstation was never a great video game console they just got lucky. People keep expecting the PS4 to get games but it's never going to get the third party support the PS2 had.

But they were. MGS1 was on PC and GC (as TTS), while MGS2 was on PC and Xbox. It's just that everyone only bought the PS2 versions.
