I think this was what bothered me about Galaxy, moreso Galaxy 2, the most. Comet stars were a fucking pain, and felt like even lazier design and padding. They should've been optional challenges, not ways to actually acquire stars.

Never understood why people say this. Yes, it's not semi-open playground design like 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy. However, it is more or less classic 2D Mario design in a 3D space. I'm pretty sure anyone who says that 3D Land/World aren't 3D Mario games are just butthurt open design fags in denial.

It's not a "3D Mario" in the sense of what 3D Mario games usually are. 3D Mario games are usually more exploration-focused with multiple objectives per level, even when Galaxy toned that down. This is the 2D level formula put into 3D.
I like 3D World but I can see where these people come from.
