/v/ hates preordering games though the idea has been around for decades. What kind of preorder bonus could a company offer to get you to preorder a game?

Soundtrack.

It gets me every fucking time.

I used to pre-order games back the era when you had to actually go to the local game store and buy a hard copy. If you didn't get to the store quick enough they would be sold out and you couldn't get the game for a few days.

These days they charge full price for an early access to the download and no game ever sells out.
Want me to pre-order? give me a discount 10-15% for being a "founder" of your game. In the days of digital downloads being the norm, there is no reason why I should pre-order at full price just to have access to the download 24 hours before everyone else.

Game developers don't understand what drove people to pre-order in the past. It wasn't a pack of stickers, It was because they were afraid of the game selling out.
>>
>>337582919
Why should this even be a thing?
I consider somebody who wants to sell me something before I can even see the producd shady as fuck.
It's an understandable practise for custom made or limited physical goods, but for practicly unlimited digital software there's not one valid justification for this to exist.
>>
>>337582919
If the game sucks, you refund me and I get to keep the game.

More realistically, a sizable (20%+) discount.
>>
>>337582919
Discount, soundtrack, and/or art book are generally enough to allow me to preorder. Note that it has to be a game I would be picking up anyways, as opposed to a "maybe" game or something I'm just curious about. No amount of preorders will make me jump on a game I'm still questionable about.

Soundtrack, artbook, or a metallic case. I wont buy a special edition for a metallic case, but if it's a preorder bonus for a game i want i will get it.
>>
Preordering has absolutely no reason to exist with digital media, so publishers now use underhanded tactics to suck people into it.
>>
>>337583710
You should be questionable about almost every game unless you've already played it.

This.

Witcher 3 gave out soundtracks to everyone who bought a hard copy, regardless of it it was pre-order or not.

Funny thing is, /v/ hates that game because its not Japanese and too popular. Meanwhile the developers do just about everything /v/ says they want and most of it for FREE.
>>
If I'm definitely going to buy a game day 1, I always preorder for physical bonuses

It would make less sense not to if you're already picking it up first day
>>
>>337583943
Several companies still reliably produce good content and so I don't have a problem buying games from them on reputation alone. Xseed and Vanillaware can probably get a pre-order from me based on name alone, assuming that it is something I might be interested in. Most of the big name publishers have been considerably disappointing, though, which is why I pre-order so rarely.

Early release perhaps? I also like skins.
>>
There's zero reason to pre-order a game unless it's going to be a low print one and those are digital only these days. I'll pre-order a game if I loved the predecessor or a game made by the same developers. That's the kind of thing that'd get me to pre-order, but even then, I'd probably wait till the week of release if not later.
>>
>>337582919
Nothing they do will make mepreorder their shit
Specially with so many garbage games out these days that just want easy money.
I'll wait for walk through, reviews and opinions from other people to buy with security.

Do it like they did 10 years ago. You get what would be considered a collector's edition worth of stuff just for pre-ordered.

See Castlevania Portrait of Ruin.
Mini art book, full soundtrack, Stylus, gamecase, posters and a decent holder for them all.

It's Fate/Kaleid liner Prisma Illya, a manga and anime where Illya (the loli from Fate/Stay Night) has some sort of brown clone and they magical girl it up.

High lewd context.

Not vidya at all.

Funny thing is, /v/ isn't one person. Witcher gets almost as much praise as it does hate on here.

Tired of newfriends acting like the entire board hates their favorite game just because some people are vocal about their dislike, while pretending fanboys don't exist on here.

Even good companies make bad games.
>>
If it's something I want to play and there is some physical shit in it I'll preorder that shit immediately. If it's preorder DLC bullshit but I'm still somewhat interested in it I'll either wait for a goty edition or just pirate it
>>
>>337586076
True, but I'll take the occasional poor game in support of a good company which usually makes good games. Especially when they give it to me cheaper or with good, free stuff in exchange for that support.
>>
>>337586506
You shouldn't support bad games though, even if it's from a good company. Ideally you only want them to make good games.

>>337586641
Are you telling me that you wouldn't want a Vanillaware art book? Even if the game turned out bad, the art they produce is top notch.

And sure, you're right. Bad games shouldn't be supported. If the company starts putting out bad games, then the support disappears. But if they are consistently good with their releases, or even just with a specific series, then it's worth showing some support in exchange for getting something in return.
>>
>>337587098
>Are you telling me that you wouldn't want a Vanillaware art book?
Not if it's for a bad game, no.

I support Vanillaware because they make good games with good art. I don't want to encourage them to make bad games with good art.
>>
>>337582919
Gain access to the entire DLC content.
>>
>>337587491
that would defeat the purpose of charging for DLC
assuming the game has more than just preorder content
>>
They really have to step up with their marketing policies, people just don't fall for shitty tricks so easily anymore, with games costing 60+ dollars
Just like mods have to stop being NO FUN ALLOUD
NO FUN ALLOUD
>they do it for free
