In all seriousness, it was pretty meh (I'm saying this as somebody who loves FO3 and hates the NMAfags constantly parroting shit).
It felt like they had all the right pieces of a good puzzle, the characters were mostly fun, the gameplay was vastly improved and actually not boring like 3 and NV, and they even had some really nifty environments like the Institute.
What FO4 failed at was putting these pieces together. Instead of discovering everything for yourself, you're hamfistedly connected to the plot as a father/mother looking for MUH BABY BOY. And that proceeds to buttfuck the entire narritive (don't get me started on the ME-like dialogue and voiced protag).
Another example of a good idea gone wrong is the settlements. I'm mostly okay with the building aspect, but the actually management is nothing short of fucking babysitting. They actually expect you to put high-grades defense turrets out every "town", which could consist of one house and a bunch of brahmin as far as the game is concerned.

When you look at the numbers, skyrim had more non-dynamic quests in it than fo4, and skyrim was still borderline god-awful.
I don't give a fuck how many settlements need my help. I want interesting side quests and a satisfying main story, which the last 3 bethsoft RPGs have failed to deliver on.
