But XII is the game that goes into the most detail about what Ivalice is like. XII puts a HUGE amount of emphasis on worldbuilding, explaining in great detail how all the organisms interact with the world, the importance of the Occuria and their involvement with Espers, how each of the class systems are in different cities and how class is determined, how each of the races live...It does more worldbuilding than most video games in general. Its a loveletter to Ivalice.
Also what if I like every Ivalice game? Vagrant Story, Tactics, Tactics Advance, Tactics A2, XII, AND Revenant Wings? Would I somehow be less of an Ivalice fan than people who only like select Ivalice games?

Why do people like IV so much? There's not a single thing it does that another FF does miles better. The plot is barely existent, and it thinks having characters "die" left and right is shocking, which it would be if you cared about the characters in the first place. The battle system is dull and weaker than any other that comes after it, barring XIII. The music is nothing to write home either.

I feel like I'm the only one. Like, I enjoyed it, and it turned me on to the series, but 7, 8, 9, and Tactics were all so, so much better. I genuinely feel like a lot of the people who liked 6 the most grew out of gaming (played 6 as a young adult) shortly after finishing it, so they look back on it fondly.
It is genuinely overrated.
Their top 3 isn't bad at all, but that bottom 3 is iffy. I'd switch XIII with VIII. And IV with VII.

Probably for many of the same reasons people like VII so much: It was very impressive for its time. In addition to being the first FF-game on the SNES and being graphically impressive compared to previous games, it also had the most ambitious story the series had seen at that point, with characters that (for the most part) had developed personalities and goals, when previous party members in the series had mostly been blank slates (except maybe II).
The plot may be filled with clichés and whatatweests and has since been outdone by later titles, but back then it was great compared to anything the series had previously done.

How many people actually die during the plot of IV? Main party members, at least. The only one that actually dies for real is Tellah but everyone else that appear dead turns out fine later on. Palom and Porom are eventually de-petrified, Cid survives his suicide bombing, Yang shows up in the underworld after having been presumed dead looking only slightly worse for wear, etc.

Beyond that it has Vaan, Fran (I will never understand how people can not only tolerate but love her voice), really awful non-distinct dungeons, magic queue, meaningless movement system (since already initiated attacks hit you a mile away), fetch quest progression and an abrupt end. 3's is doable though, provided you save outside the dungeon frequently. Which is a treck, but beyond how long it is, the actual encounters aren't that bad. Only thing that might trip me up here and there is the dark world, as that's one long marathon with no turning back.
The entire main final fantasy series is good imo. There's not a single one I didn't get at least some enjoyment out of. Favorites come down to personal preference. Fuck these ranking lists.
