As someone who played a lot of Doom 1 and 2 in their childhood, I think it's great. It's simple, mindless, fast, chaotic fun, just like the original 2.

Has weapon wheel (at least on consoles) but is far faster than the gameplay trailers show. You die pretty quickly in this game, and have to be moving constantly.

repostan review for those curious about the game

1/2

For anyone generally interested in possibly picking up the game, I'll give you an unbiased rundown of my personal experience with the game. I'm not a huge doom fan, but I really enjoy 1 and 2, and Doom 3 was enjoyable enough as a survival horror game for the time, but not as a doom game.

To start, I didn't play the multiplayer very much, as I don't get a doom game to play the multiplayer. From the bit I played, it's fun, and I enjoyed the movement/map design. It's not quite an arena shooter, and not quite the generic fps of today, but something of an inbetween. I find it fun enough to where I'll probably sink more time into it occasionally, all in all it's not that bad.

Heading onto the campaign/gameplay, I found myself happy with the end results. I've beaten ultra-violence, and I'm starting nightmare now. When it comes to story elements, the game doesn't really bother with cutscenes. They're rare two-minute affairs, and not common enough to be much a bother, especially since they're over so fast. The plot is as basic as it gets, but between the overall plot and the surprising amount of lore available to read, people who care will find themselves satisfied, while people who don't won't be bothered by what's there, as it won't be a distraction. The ending is total shit though, but whatever. The gunplay is tight and satisfying, and overall movement at the basic level is fairly quick. The upgrades available help spice up your weapons, keeping them interesting (though upgrades range from bland to really cool). The armor upgrades, essentially perks, offer decent variety, but by about midgame, you can upgrade your mobility to really start zipping around.

2/2, sorry mates my writing a shit and I ramble on.

The maps are large, and I really enjoyed the emphasis on vertical elements during some sections of combat. The chainsaw is pretty novel in how its used, and due to its system, can't be spammed, so the animations won't be happening nearly enough to get annoying. Glory kills as a mechanic can feel a bit stiff, but not horrible, but with upgrades speeding them up the problem goes away pretty quickly. I was surprised by how tricky a fair few of the secrets actually were, and as a whole, they make TNO's look like shit, which was a gripe I had with that game. Enemy AI ranged from retarded to clever, but it seems to improve a lot stepping into nightmare. They have these portals throughout the levels which are basically challenges ala devil may cry, and while they stutter the game's pacing, they're interesting and varied enough to be enjoyable.

Overall, it's much better than Doom 3, a different beast than the originals, but much better than I thought it would ever be. I was really happy with the final product. You can tell the game has a lot of TLC put into it, and in the age where we're starved of good FPS games, it's worth a pickup. If you liked shadow warrior 2013, you'll probably love this one, I found they played pretty similarly.

8.25/10, it's bretty gud. It's consistently fun enough to where I'll probably be replaying it for a long while. Ask me whatever if you've got any specific questions, I probably didn't cover a lot.
>>
>>337530926
I like that the game basically went with the story/tone of Doom 3, but the protagonist of Doom/Doom 2. Really shows how fucking silly it is to take Doom seriously at all.

Plus, the entire concept of Doom Guy being awoken from deep slumber, bedroom filled with demons, and finding out mankind royally fucked up and it is now entirely up to him to clean this shit up again is absolutely straight Doom comic levels of absurdity.
>>
>>337535814

>>
>>337536584

>>
My best description of the game is it's sort of like the parkour races from dying light, where you had to plan your route out in advance, but it's the frantic shooting of serious sam. So think serious sam while trying to move through vertical obstacles extremely quickly.

Basically marketers on suicide watch. Game is great. 1-9 is your weapon select.
>>
>>337536584
Considering I think the game got truly great when you got mostly upgraded and entered FAST, it lends itself better to multiple playthroughs. Being able to NG+ the highest difficulties and maintain the fast from the start means I'll have more fun replaying it than the first run. I think the gameplay is good enough to hold up, but honestly that question'll vary based on your personal view after playing.

>>337536641
Sounds like you'll dig it then, assuming you're not strapped for cash. I think its worth the money, but for people on the edge, pirating it first is probably the smart option.

It saddens me /v/ wants to shit on this game so much.

I bought it with a completely open mind, obviously skeptical because it's a Bethesda published game and id software is as much id as modern Bioware is Bioware but it's actually pretty damn impressive.

As with any game /v/ won't talk about it reasonably one or two years down the line when the fate of the game is already sealed.

Also this is coming from someone who absolutely loves every doom game for their own reasons, so I guess I'm not pure enough of a fanboy for some of you people but that shit doesn't matter to me.
>>
what's the fucking point of these threads, there's only marketers discussing with shills
>>
I wish I could pirate this.

I don't want to pay money for something which from everything I've seen looks like trash, sans some peoples opinions and a single gameplay demo. Two hours is not enough time to get a grasp of the game, especially when you have to unlock the perks to make it fast and seemingly enjoyable.

Fuck me though, am I starved for a decent shooter, and seeing some 'reviews' here are making it seem like it will at least scratch my itch. But that's not worth 40 USD as an Ausfag.
>>
It would be amazing with no fucking glory kills, but it's still pretty good. Gameplay and level design is good.
>>
>>337537414
What's sad is there's actual newfags who genuinely believe this, and not that in reality it's 98% bait and 2 percent marketers and shills.

I got real sceptical when I heard that there were no review copies of the game. But I decided too buy the game based on what they had already showed in the gameplay trailers/videos and the decent amount of positive feedback that was on steam and other websites.

Here is the rundown on what a random anon thinks of the game so far.

Price: 40€
Gametime: 3 hours so far.
Doom fanboy status: Played 1-3 (4), 64, and some custom WADs like Brutal Doom and the like.

>Multiplayer is complete trash.
>Like seriously, don't even bother.
>Plays like Brutal Doom if you would have turned up the execution mechanic by 300% and shortened the animations down too 1-2 sec.
>Snapmap is extremely limited if compared with what you were able to do with the older games.
>Still fun too fuck around with though, reminds me alot of the Timesplitters editor in some ways.
>The upgrade system feels weirdly out of place, nothing gamebreaking though.
>The level design is TOP DOG if you compare it with any modern shooter that has been released in the past 5 years.
>It's not as good if you compare it with the originals, too many corridors that feels way too long and claustrophobic.
>The level designers likes to lock you into combat arenas akin to DMC 1, 3 and 4.
>The combat starts too feel a bit ''samey'' after the first 2-3 hours.
>Not nearly as many ''forced'' cutscenes as some anons have said (so far).
>Most of them are, at most, 15-25 sec long aswell.
>Handholding
>Handholding
>Handholding
>Luckily, you can turn most of that shit off in the options menu.
>The graphics are very, good.
>Could pass the graphics off as a late last gen AAA with every setting turned down to the lowest possible setting.
>Still looks a bit muddy thanks to their color choices though.
>Music is nothing special.
>Story is nothing special.

I was expecting the worst since it is a Bethesda game, but so far it's a surprisingly good game.
Not as good as the originals, but a 7/10 at the very least. (not counting MP)

>>

Why not? It downloads faster and Amazon gives you a really good discount for recently released games.

You could have gotten an even bigger discount on cdkeys or any of those other cheap key sites.
>>
>>337547060

Many times the disc doesn't even contain the game, just an exe for steam and a cd key inside the cover.

I like it.

I respect the original Doom, don't get the hype behind it, though.

Doom 3 was competent, but I can see how its "not Doom"

DOOM is definitely Doom.

I do not know what is worse that you are referencing a forced fad from when most of /v/ was on elementary, the fact it has been so long I can feel bad about it, or that I thought ytmnd was funny at one time.

Not Even Epic Music could cheer me up.

You just go to SnapMap, register a DoomID and then you can create/publish your own maps. You can also browse latest maps or popular maps and either do a solo lobby or find match.

For some reason the game forces you too do it or it won't boot at all.

Finished the game on Nightmare for my first run because I'm a fucking masochist.

Shield guys are probably the most obnoxious enemy in the game early on, but once you get the rocket launcher remote det they're pretty trivial unless you round the corner into one.

Remote det rocket launcher is actually pretty overpowered with the mastery upgrade, two shots cacodemons and revenants and can instagib clusters of lower-tier mooks

What a joke. Bethesda's marketing staff should be fired asap. The coverage for this game has been terrible, trailers sucked, footage sucked except for a lowres nvidia stream. And on top of that there was no review copy sent + denuvo was added as the last moment. Everything pointed to a disaster.
