I don't miss him. Fans have a better idea of how a proper Metal Gear should look like. Man codenamed "Snake" infiltrating some military base with good but campy plot and characters, cheesy dialogue and light humor. And many plot twists. Remember pre-TPP speculation threads? Theories were much, much better than the game itself. People want a good game, Kojima wants to make "unique experiences" (like feeling a Phantom Pain after finishing the game).

Dreams: great open-world zombie apocalypse game, Dragon Quest 11 news, Vita getting some support

Honestly I don't see how E3 could possibly be worse than what we already know at this point.
Nintendo, EA, Disney, and Activision are noshows, Sony is going to be gloating about muh sales and VR the whole time, Microsoft will inevitable shoot themselves in the foot again, and Ubisoft is going to be another cringefest.
The only things I'm actually excited to see more of is Halo Wars 2 and Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
