About to buy a Dreamcast. What I am in for? Is it worth the price today?
>>
The price is usually pretty cheap. Worth it.
>>
The last true video game console
>>
>>337516463
I still play mine. I love it
>>
>>337516787

This. Well said actually

It's my favorite system of all time OP. That was the last time I was truly passionate about video games.
>>
>>337516657
On third world shitters like Argentina this is pretty hard to find. The ones on local online stores are really fucking expensive.
>>
>>337516463
GRANDIA 2
>>
Take it from a guy who plays his dreamcast regularly:

BUY
CONTROLLER
EXTENSION
CABLES

Thank me later.
>>
>>337516787
more of an in home arcade machine

I loved that fucking thing
>>
>"Let's make our Dreamcast fighting game ports inferior to the Saturn versions."
>>
>>337517549
MvC2 was arcade perfect
>>
>>337516463

Eternal. Darkness.

THIS ISN'T HAPPENING, ANON. REMEMBER.
>>
>>337517549

Street Fighter Zero 3 and literally nothing else.

You tried tho
>>
>>337516463
Yes. Though the disc drives in many used ones these days go bad fast due to age. Get USB-GDROM controller or GDEMU.
>>
everyone talks about how, good dreamcasts are but mine broke 10 years ago
>>
>>337517657
I think you are mistaken
>>
>>337516463
>what am I in for?

-quality arcade ports
-dat classic load screen soundtrack
-playing bootlegs on CD-R's
-dat capcom and snk library
-everything sega before it was ported to ps2/gnc/xbox
-large ass memory cards that can hold 3 game saves
>>
>>337517826
>Eternal. Darkness.

I FUCKING TOLD YOU THAT IT IS ALL WRONG.
>>
Do I need a boot disc to play burned import games? I wanna try out L.O.L.: Loss of Love.
>>
My old Dreamcast has been gathering dust for years. At this stage I'd rather emulate than go through the trouble of setting it all up

Pretty sad, this console doesn't deserve that.
>>
>>337518104

Yes
>>
>>337516463
of course. it has the best arcade ports. best port of marvel v capcom 2. btw thats my fav

just get you 100 blank cds and start burning games anon. enjoy
>>
>>337517549
what?
Most fighting games on dreamcast were arcade perfect, Virtual On and MvC2 comes to mind since the arcade machines used the same hardware as dreamcast.
>>
On the topic of dreamcast games, whats the name of that weird zombie beat'em that was on the dreamcast
>>
>tfw sneered at Illbleed back then and it's worth cash money now
>tfw that Treasure game for it was never released or finished
>tfw Sega bitched out before Star Wars Trilogy Arcade could be ported to the DC
>tfw FirePro D has no game clock, would love to know if I've hit 2000 hours yet
>tfw the first time I ever saw SoulCalibur DC running inside a FuncoLand and was absolutely stunned
>tfw had the phone company come to install a line in my basement "apartment" so I could play PSO
>tfw felt heartbroken when CvS2 was ported to the PS2
>tfw waited until Code Veronica was released to buy the console, bought it and SoulCalibur with the system and stayed up all night playing

Getting genuinely misty eyed here
>>
>>337518435
>Melty Blood will never be ported to Dreamcast even though it runs on Naomi arcade hardware

>>337518618
house of the dead?
>>
For those who use CD-R's on their Dreamcast, careful not to use cheap CD-R's or shitty Dreamcast rips because it will wear out your disc drive lens quickly and will eventually kill it.
>>
>>337518837
>Sega bitched out before Star Wars Trilogy Arcade could be ported to the DC
A shame about Lost World too
>>
My Dreamcast randomly resets during gameplay and I have no idea how to fix it.
>>
>>337516463
all retro game prices are starting to inflate, but dreamcast is still a good console

the console has no DRM so you can just burn copies of all the games you want to save money
>>
Here's a question

How come these fags can develop ripoff consoles that play cartridges of a dozen types, but no ones made a CD disc drive one yet? Too costly? My DC is so precious but it's been resurrected once already.

Before you ask my toaster can't run anything past N64
>>
>>337519629
You mean a GD-disc drive replacement? Look into USB-GDROM Controller and GDEMU

isn't there a way to adapt a sd to it?
>>
>>337520337

It's last on the third from the bottom row you blind fucking asshole
>>
>>337520302
Oh. Well the 8/16-bit consoles tend to be simple enough to be emulated on a single chip. After that, many consoles used proprietary chips that are way too difficult to emulate, reproduce, or it would be illegal to do so.
>>
>>337516463
Prepare to be cast full of dreams desu
>>
>>337516787

I second this question: >>337520118
>>
I don't know what you mean by "worth the price", but I got mine at 50 USD, and it did that worth for me. Enjoy your arcade perfect NAOMI games like CVS2 and Crazy Taxi, because a lot of those games seem real shitty on PS2, GC, or Xbox. Enjoy it with VGA box so you can play in native 480p.

Supposedly there are indy games being made for the DC, but I don't feel they're very good.
>>
>>337521124
Gamecube was just N64 part II, even though Nintendo had a lot of decent 1st party games, there weren't nearly enough 3rd party games.
>>
I've bought three used Dreamcast consoles and each one had worn out disc readers. Be prepared to flip the console upside down to get discs read.
>>
Segagaga translation when
>>
Just bought 2 dreamcasts in the past week.

Feels good.
>>
>>337521410
Mine was bought at launch and it still works fine. I bet you destroyed your laser reader by playing a lot of burned CD games.
>>
>>337521360
That doesn't discredit it as a true video game console, though. And it was at a time where its competitors were not. N64: 2 or not, it was the last home game console. Dreamcast was second to last.
>>
I like that Dreamcast Sonic game where there's a casino level and you have to keep collecting rings so you can pile it all up in a room to reach a floating chaos emerald
>>
>>337521587
Nope. Unless the other three used consoles I bought were owned by pirates.

>>337521360
The Gamecube did everything the N64 better than the N64 did.

Better 3D Mario, better Smash, better F-Zero, better Resident Evil. The N64 Zelda games are available on GCN and there's also exclusives like Metroid Prime and Pikmin. It's aged a lot better than the N64 has.
>>
>>337521745
Yeah, it's him. According to Wikipedia, he started with doujins, so there you go.

Also, I agree his art is great.
>>
>>337521653
That's Sonic Adventure. There's a good 70% chance that you'll ruin it for yourself if you ever decide to play it again, especially if it's the DX version. Keep your memories intact and don't play it.
>>
I still have a Dreamcast stashed somewhere but I never had a memory card for it
>>
>>337519154
ReviveDC releases for me if available and Verbatim CD-R's.
>>
>>337521854

Anyone ever play Giant Gram 2000?

a pretty good time

be mindful of the hardware, it's old, so it might need to be tuned up. a lot of third party support, indie support and first party support, a ton of peripherals are available and even more firmware and custom firmware additions.

Great console, great games, it was too much of a pioneer for it's own good sadly and fights between Sega japan/europe/america killed it.

I sold mine just 4 or so months ago because had no need for it, somewhat noisy but working flawless, if it wasn't because my current pc can emulate pretty much anything I would still keep it.

You are in for a great time OP, games like power stone, skies of arcadia, PSO, soul calibur, project justice, Grandia II, code veronica and so, so many of them.

Kinda makes me feel nostalgic, back then the Dreamcast having internet meant limitless possibilities to improve games, fix them on the fly, add new content and stuff like that, the future looked so bright...no one ever talked about selling costumes, skins or shit like that.
>>
>>337523325
Nice. Whet ya find it.
>>
>>337521587
>>337521667
Does that seriously fuck up your DC? I've never heard about this.
>>
>>337516463
What makes Grandia 2 so good? Is the Steam version good?
>>
>>337523882
I don't see how. Unless the CD-R's you burned them too are of terrible quality, the laser won't deteriorate from reading discs.
>>
>>337523604

ebay circa 2002. It was really cheap because everyone was selling their N64s and Dreamcasts to get a Playstation 2.
>>
>>337523990
Burning shitty rips to CD-R's causes the Dreamcast laser to move more often to read the data that's spaced all around the disc instead of being concentrated into a track like real GD-R's are.

It won't kill your laser instantly, but it will wear it out faster than normal.

"burned games ruin DC lasers" comes from some earlier ISO's that placed the information on the disk in an unorganized fashion, so the laser has to do a lot more moving back and forth compared to original games. Supposedly, most of that was cleaned up and the ISO releases out there today don't do it as bad. I have some oooold burned discs, and you can definitely hear the laser's motor working like crazy trying to boot a disc or just load a level.

Whatever you do don't miss out on the single best haunted house game of all time. It's the only one that actually plays like you're going through a haunted house since you have to predict where the scares will come from before they spook you.
Also you get to go on a magical Toy Story adventure where you plot to kill a child so you can be reunited with your lover sexy doll in hell after fighting zodic the edgehog.

DreamShell any good? I think it might be nice to have to play ripped games from.

Anyone else miss that '98-'02 aesthetic? Especially in anime and vidoe game art. Something about it is extremely nostalgic to me.
>>
>>337528626
>There's something extremely nostalgic about the aesthetic many games had when I was young.
Gee I wonder why.
>>
>>337529198
It's not even that, there's something about media from that time that looks/feels different and I can't put my finger on what it is.

Pic related, CCS embodies it really well and gives me that feeling even though I never watched it back then.
