I beat him my first try with no prior knowledge of who or what the boss was. I don't get all the people crying over this game, unless it's your first dark souls. Didn't you retards get any better at the game by playing the first two + demons and/or bloodborne? Jesus christ.

He was the boss that took me the most tries so far. He's one of those bosses that's super tough to get a bead on at first, but almost insultingly easy once you figure him out.
>Get good at parrying. Almost every single one of his attacks can be parried, and then he's toast.
>If you can't parry, swing around behind him and wail on him. When he lunges at you at the beginning of the fight, dodge-roll behind him, and then wait for what he does next. Listen carefully for when he grunts loudly, as he's either going to do his overhead strike or his super long combo. His overhead is easily dodged and punished, but if he does his super combo, you want to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE. If you do your best to stay behind and slightly to the right of him, he can't touch you, for the most part.
>During the second half of the fight, when he's staggered, you want to GTFO, as you'll die almost instantly if you try to attack him. Immediately after he grows wings though, you have a second to wail on him. From there, just dodge until he stands still to summon his doppelganger. If you do it right, you can do enough damage to him AND his buddy to kill the buddy, forcing him to stand still and summon him again, giving you time to finish him off

Do people really struggle with the pontiff? I beat him on my first try by just doing the same technique of roll dodging and then getting one or two hits in. Have you tried that anon? I'm not great at parrying, so that's how I beat most bosses and the pontiff was pretty easy for me. Maybe you could use the bloodring so you can dodge better too?

Step 2: Press the roll button if his weapons move at all
Step 3: Once the weapons stop moving, swing the straight sword once. Second phase is same strat, just roll more.
Step 4: Congrats, you win
He's the only boss that's challenging. All the other bosses are complete jokes.

If you do like the great club, I would also suggest some of the other great hammers that have perseverance. In a game without poise, that weapon art is godtier. If you like the warcry thing though, BKGA and Great Axe are both disgustingly strong with great movesets.

Two ways to go about it
you can either buff it with a spell of your choice, preferably lightning blade, darkmoon blade, or carthus flame arc if your int and faith are garbage
The other is apply cathus rouge and watch bleed proc as they're stunlocked by your weapon art
Can you get the normal rings if you go to NG+ without having collected all the base ones? And is Sirris quest good to go if I kill the mound maker leader after joining?
