He probably still will. Now that alternate timelines can happen and interact with main Azeroth, and they've confirmed that there's only one twisting nether vs all alternate dimensions, the final expansion will probably just be a multi-dimensional gangbang on the twisting nether. They can pick and choose whatever version of whatever character they want to show up.
Either that or just pretend alternate timelines don't exist because of how stupid it was.

Besides, what other fate do you propose for a bad guy like him? Lich King being a boss and getting defeated isn't a problem by any stretch, it's the natural outcome and most probable alternatives (like "he was good all along and working against the Legion" asspull) would have been worse.
The problems with the storyline are entirely different, like making player characters the greatest heroes of Azeroth that Lich King wants to reanimate (leading to "I'll get you next time Gadget" appearances and being just generally stupid), the whole deal with Matthias Lehner (as opposed to just sticking with Arthas and Ner'Zhul being merged: "NOW WE ARE ONE") including the fact that it took place in a fucking book, Tirion being given too much importance in favour of everyone else who has a bone to pick with Arthas (including Mal'ganis who reappeared and then was just forgotten about again) etc.
