What's your favourite type of zone/level aesthetic?

I really love Savannah/plains.

Snowy mountains.
NOT ice levels.

Bright forests and blue skies in a game that isn't shit
>>
>>337474776
Depends on the genre. I've always been partial to space/industrial gothic

>I really love Savannah/plains.
Great plains and high altitude mountain tops, peat fields, high altitude or high latitude bogs, high altitude salt flats. scandinavia-like regions. Generally areas lacking trees, very cold or very wet: Scotland, portions of Norway and Sweden, Himalayan massive, Andes, Patagonia, that kind of stuff.
In other words, the kind of landscapes you virtually never fucking see in video games.
If anyone knows about games featuring such environments, please fucking tell me.

Also:
Ocean and underwater ecosystems. I had burned about 35 hours on fucking Subnautica purely because it's one of the only existing games that endorse this type of landscapes.

Post apocalyptic is just a convenient way to have the real world but make it drastically different and more chaotic

Temperate forests, rolling green hills etc

Generic fantasy shit really.

I absolutely loved just wandering through the wilderness in Skyrim, Kingdom Come, Witcher 3, LOTRO, The Hunter.

I also fucking love swamp type areas in more fantastical settings, Zangarmarsh in Wow, a bunch of the levels in Rayman 2, Morrowind etc
>>
Grass and trees usually look like complete ass in vidya, so I prefer urban settings and caves.

I can agree with Witcher and Kingdom Come, but Skyrim, outside of few exceptions looked extremely fake and unimpressive to me, and really failed to reflect the nature of scandinavian landscapes.

You would really really like Ark
>>
i like big dark castles with thunderstorms or lava . I also dont mind blizzards.
>>
>>337478739
>You would really really like Ark
You mean Ark: Survival evolved? I had been intentionally avoiding it because mass multiplayer survival sandbox is not something I enjoy very much. Also, from what I've seen it seemed more like generic "ancient" jungle and temperate forests, and it all looked rather cartoony.
But I had not given it that much attention, so I might be wrong here.
>>
>>337478353
It took me a double take to realize that wasn't real. I looked at the building and the river first time and its fucking spot on, wow
>>
>>337478579

80% of Skyrim was pretty ordinary, but there were pockets of nice thick forest to the south south/west that I fucking loved.
>>
>>337478940
Cartoony? You must've seen people playing on the lowest settings, it's one of the best looking games out there. Also it has singleplayer. It has areas that literally look like the pic you posted and an ocean you can explore too.

Deserts. I mean not your generic shit flat sandy wasteland, but actual dunes. Bonus points if there aren't too many NPCs around and the zone itself is huge. Can't think of many games that do this, except for Journey.
>>
>>337479023
Yeah, the birch tree forest was quite beautiful and felt actually somewhat unique.
But the rest of it was... I'm a great fan of scandinavian landscapes and I was really fucking disappointed they could not be bothered to even fucking take a look at those and draw their inspiration from there. The rocks in particular were awful and felt like something out of WoW rather than real world - at the same time it wasn't alien and strange like Morrowind was.

Cave lakes are my fucking shit, any game that lets you swim underwater and surface up into a lake inside of a cave is a 10/10 comfy game.

OK, I had no idea about it having single player (when the hell did they add that, because it sure as fuck wasn't a thing last time I checked, though admittedly it has been a while). I'm checking this out. Thanks.

Kingdom Come has some fucking incredible environmental art, it's ridiculously organic and believable.

The lighting in forests and general attention to detail in regards to transitions between land/water are particularly awesome.

Unpopular opinion, but I really like swamps. Their spookiness, dim light and frogs croaking in the distance is just so nice.

I know but I still really enjoy it.
I'd say that for me the most boring zones are your typical forests. Couldn't stand levelling in Ashenvale in WoW because of it.

Megaman X Command Mission has an excellent desert level
>>
>>337479309

>Yeah, the birch tree forest was quite beautiful and felt actually somewhat unique.

That's the one, but yeah the rest was so painfully generic, and Beth's environmental artists have never been all that shit hot, but the degree to which everything else felt so painfully artificial outside of that starting area really was startling.

Floating Castles
Floating Islands

FUCKING ANYTHING FLOATING. Why is there not a million billion of these things?

This shit was my Jam. Etrian Odyssey 2's second dungeon was all about the Auburn Trees yo.

Nothing better than a game about exploration taking place in a scenic environment you love.
>>
I absolutely love levels set in moving trains. There's just something about the close spaces, the traveling between/over/under the wagons, the whole 'moving' aspect in general, really.
>>
>>337480725

Not sure, it makes perfect sense from a game design/development point of view, you can focus all your effort on key areas of interest ala Windwaker etc

I'd love something that incorporates Crimson Skies style aerial combat with the whole floating island shtick.
