I killed some eagle looking thing with long feathers, then I found the woods, I killed the 3 ninjas in cloaks, then I killed a spider and it's pets. now the I'm at some place with purple sky, and aliens on buildings. I found the jail place, and I just killed some lightning cat thing.
where now? I've been wandering around for a while

Go back to the street level outside the lantern room, then follow the opposite path til you get to an open door. There'll be another straightforward path with bridges going over, cross the bridges and eventually you'll get down to the other side of the street which leads into a large plaza where the boss is. Once you beat him you can go into the building behind him and touch a body to get warped to the game's final area.
Though you should stop there and do the DLC if you have it, DLC is great.

Don't feel bad about looking up where to go next, I got lost the same way once or twice. Basically the only time I looked anything up for BB and as a result I missed some stuff..
Also really doesn't help if you're playing other games too, or take a break for a few days a come back going "oh fuck where the hell am I again?.."

Make sure you visit the optional castle area, it's awesome. You'll need to go back to the woods and find the cave behind the village, follow it, then get back to the clinic where you can search some corpses and find the summons, then take it to Hemwick.
Oh, and the Nightmare Frontier- you'll want to get that tonsil stone and take it to the chapel where you ended up after killing the spider and get grabbed by the giant creature.
Also you can get the key from the cage in yahargul where you are now and get to the upper cathedral ward, there's two bosses up there.

Cainhurst. You have to get around the back of the clinic by going via the cave in the woods, get a letter on a corpse, then go to Hemwick near the witches' hut and approach the marker on the road. It's got probably be best bossfight in the vanilla game.

I think Cainhurst was a bit sucky.
The outside of the castly has pretty dangerous enemies, but the ones inside are laughable, and then the boss is suddenly really difficult.
The level design looks good, but isn't that interesting to explore
