People hate the futuristic CoDs. The biggest complaint I have heard about Advanced Warfare was that the jet packs and shit make it too hard to camp and keep track of people. Infinite Warfare means more of this. People just can't keep up when games move faster than a snail's pace.
In the end CoD sells millions more than battlefield. Cod youtubers bitch for the next year that it sucked, but play it then move to the new yearly release. Battlefield 1 still has a healthy community.

I think BF3 is their most successful one. It sold 8 million in one month, but MW3 (they were released at a similar time sold 6.5 million in 1 day. Last number (of BF3 sales) I could find is 15 million in 2012. So I guess it did catch up to some CoD games, but it's still not selling as fast as CoD does. BF4 sold worse than BF3. Dunno about Hardline, but I expect it to have done even worse than BF4.
