>jrpg
>final boss is god
>>
I like this trope
>>
>>337446827
Do you mean God as in "The" God, or just "A" God.
>>
JRPG:
>protagonist is the chosen one, and probably has amnesia. He matures gradually from an idiot to a wise leader.
>he groups up with random teenagers, and saves the world with the power of friendship

Every time.
>>
>>337450615
>protagonist isn't the chosen one, just a young wisecracking soldier. He matures gradually from an idiot to a wise leader.
>he groups up with random teenagers and helps stave off some asshole from ending world
>gets imprisoned by his former comrads
>escapes but is constantly on the run
>distressed because can't return home to see family or girlfriend
>dies like a dog trying to protect his only friend
>>
>>337446827
>tfw you used to be friends with this guy
Cool dude. Quiet. Weird seeing him posted all over /v/
>>
>>337446827
LITERALLY nothing wrong with this
>>
>>337448863
Me too, and I'm the religious type. It's fun
>>
>>337446827

Final Fantasy 13-3
>>
>>337453038
Also every SMT game ever
>>
In how many JRPGs do you fight an actual god instead of a really powerful being pretending to be a god, or is wrongly believed to be a god by the people?
>>
>JRPG
>penalized in some way for retreating
>>
>>337452807
Probably one of the better stories Square Enix wrote. The character I mean, not Crisis Core as a whole.
>>
>>337452807
I was about to say Tales of Symphonia, but nevermind
>>
>>337452807
What game?
>>
>>337446827
>two gods
>one of them want human to rule, one want demon to rule the world
>MC just say "fuck it", and kill them both to ensure coexistance.
>>
>>337454148
>two gods
>one was thought to be your enemy but dies protecting you from the one who was actually your enemy
>there's a third god that decides to lend a hand and gives you God powers
>you recreate the world and throw away your powers
>>
>kid with amnesia traveling the world as he and his group are wanted
>meet and save people across the world
>you turn out to be the god of destruction
>get a choice to "destroy" the world at one girls wish.
>>
>>337453565
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

>>337453463
I completely agree. Although I did enjoy most of the characters introduced including Gift-of-the-Goddess-kun , the story was absolute shit until the Nibelheim Incident
>>
>>337455430
Xenoblade?
>>
>>337455970
Yes
>>
>>337448942
It wouldn't be "The" God because he doesn't exist.

bump?
>>
>>337450615
I cannot fucking stand "chosen ones" in any game or other form of media. Why can't characters be great just because they are? Why do they have to be fated to do what they do? How does anybody find it entertaining when a character is some super special snowflake who was fated to be extra awesome or some shit?

Though I do love when games subvert this, like in Dark Souls where it's pretty heavily implied that the "chosen undead" is not the first chosen one, just the one that happened to survive.
>>
>>337448942
It's almost always a random god since not only God can't do evil by definition but he can't possibly beaten or even acknowledged in a physical sense. You could technically beat him by making every single human stop believing into him but that doesn't sound like it would make for a good game plot.
>>
>>337459097
The best subversion of this trope is when all the prophecies and stories about the chosen one were fashioned as part of the villain's plan.

A certain gun-toting spaghetti-western styled JRPG has an entry in its series that does this
>>
>>337446827

>Turns out he's not really god
>He's just some asshole who convinced god's angels that he was
>god's still all "not my problem"
>>
>>337448942
90% of the time it just is a "god" thinking he is God.

>Have to be reddit-tier fedoralord to not believe in fairy tales
>>
>>337459615
Most of the time it is "the" god of that certain world
>>
>>337459097
I don't mind the trope as long as they don't go too far with it.
Stuff like the hero gaining special access to powers or legendary items are okay imo
I hate stuff like "You were only able to come this far because you are the chosen one"
>>
>>337463624
>Have to be reddit-tier fedoralord to post about it incessantly on the Internet
>>
>>337463624
I am an Theist and your remark was just not necessary.
Given the replies to you were also fucking retarded but you started bringing the negativity into the discussion
>>
>>337446827
>jrpg
>protagonist is a nobody
>under command of female colonel and a 13 year old child
>not a big hero
>never faces god
>realizes he's a robot
>realizes his memories were artificial
>game ends
>>
>>337465125
*atheist
Don't know how that happened
>>
>>337455750
>the story was absolute shit until the Nibelheim Incident

But the Nibelheim Incident was when it plunges off a cliff.
>>
>>337456246
But all the other shit in JRPGs dooes exist?
>>
>>337465205
You forgot
>realizes everyone should already be dead
>realizes that the planet is fucking with everyone

Also your
>realizes his memories were artificial
should be something like
>realizes that he shouldn't even exist
because he doesn't have any memories

You should pray about it. I'll be praying for your soul so you don't burn in hell and hopefully you'll see the light.

I am irreligious, I just don't make a huge deal out of it as if it makes me better than everyone else.
