Multiplayer vidya kinda went through a dark age in the early-mid 2000s. It's been on an uptick since then, in both the head-to-head and co-op departments.
Also, everything's getting a lot more colorful. Most studios realized that brown and bloom was actually total garbage.

As for things being more colorful, while I agree I also think it has to be well done. All three of the games in the OP very aesthetically pleasing. That game that Gearbox game however looks absolutely shitty even though it tries to be colorful.

It's a little repetitive but reasonably fun. I've got it on PC but played it a bunch on the PS. It worked better as a couch co-op time waster. I'd wait for a sale, also make sure you use a controller to play, they gimped kb+m play.
