He already has helix rockets, why the fuck would he need a grenade? Also, running and gunning is not all he does in the game. Sometimes you'll need to take pot shots at people as you pop in and out of cover. Putting down a heal next to some cover is perfect for this.
On a side note, the heal makes him synergize with Reinhardt super hard. I kinda get upset if someone doesn't pick 76 after I choose Reinhardt.

Pharah is the best choice for a pocket Mercy. Soldier works better with Reinhardt, as a shield is infinitely more useful to him than a heal which he already has.
