Is this game good? I'm a big Star Trek fan (Pre-Reboot) and heard it hits consoles this year.

Pretty decent if you like the show and want to shoot space lasers at Borg. It has one of the friendlier f2p systems out there, in terms of being able to unlock shit in the game just by playing.

The last year and a half saw the game step up the talent pool, with some of the cheaper Trek actors reprising their roles as captains for a few missions. Don't expect Stewart or Mulgrew, but there's a few of them.

This summer, due to the anniversary we are getting a new expansion that focuses on being a time agent, and lets you start a new character in the TOS era, with appropriate ships. Some interesting shit about that, and people are rumouring we might see Shatner come in as Kirk.

I certainly recommend you try it out at least on PC. The space combat is generally agreed to be the best aspect of the game, but ground is getting better these days too.

>>337434650
Oh, it has one of the best character creators out there. For your own PC, your bridge crew, and your ships as well.

May not be the greatest mmo out there but as a Trek fan there's a lot to enjoy. The space combat is interesting and it's mostly open world so you can fly around and check out the different planets and stations from the series even if there's not anything to do there yet. Best thing is you can walk around on your ship and invite others to your ship and you also get to name your ships. There's also optional idle game content that involves managing your crew and sending them on missions which is cool for immersion. Also f2p is good, but endgame gets very grindy.

>There's also optional idle game content that involves managing your crew and sending them on missions which is cool for immersion.
That and the Admiralty stuff in endgame that lets you send off your various ships on missions is really neat.

Answering to this anon.
It's unique NPC ship.

>>337433417
On one hand i would like to tell you that it's good, on the other i would want to warn you away from it.
The good it has in it is the space and ground combat, which are pretty basic for MMOs.
Some of the story content is also pretty cool and there are quite a lot of ships which look cool.

Then the reasons to avoid it.
Most of those cool looking ships are cash shop ships or worse, lockbox ships.
The game is in a state of "living dead".
It is mainly kept alive by its fanbase/those foolish enough to still play it (including me).
STF (PvE) and PvP queues are dead and beyond story content and some other PvE content, there isn't much to be done, also the game almost goes out of its way to hide shit from you, like NPC vendors and such.
>>
>>337435904
This.
>>
>>337433417
It's okay, but there has been a huge lack of quality control on most of the missions that've come out in the past few years. Quite a few of them were released with really obvious bugs and dialog errors(text not matching spoken dialog in spots or not timed up correctly in others) that never get fixed.

In the series proper it;s the Nebula Class.
In STO though I am using the Oddy variants.

Gotta be the Nebula for me too, both in series and game, though I haven't played in forever, so I'm assuming my retrofit is completely obsolete by now.
>>
>>337439907
There's a new tier of ships now, but no Nebula variant yet.

With a upgrade token (now only 4$ goy!) you can upgrade it to tier 5-U, which is essentially same as tier 6, but it will miss the unique ship trait as well as any sorta second specialization seat any other tier 6 has.

So, id say that it still works like it did before, but it's not as shiny as it used to be.

Also, it's a science ship, yes?
Space magic, by what i hear, is kinda shit these days and so sci ships that double as cruisers or escorts, tend to be better than raw sci ships.

Oh yes and there was also a skill tree revamp, pic related.

Yep, it's science, but it can fit a decent amount of modules for the other classes.

Might have to fire it up and see how my Bridge Officer harem is doing then. I just wish away team stuff was more "star trek" and less "kill everything that moves". There was some neat user made missions that got into that spirit, but the game engine is just not really suited for it.

No. Mechanically it is reasonably fun, but Cryptic can't manage a game for shit. Especially these days.

Kind of the reason why I prefer playing Klinks and Romulans. Less bullshit that way.

Whoa, it came back? Funny to think for a while a general might survive on 4chan's /vg/ instead of 8's.
>>
>>337441103
8/vg/ is in a way eternal and there everything survives like it was deep frozen.

Still, i wanted to give 4/vg/ a try and see how long a thread can survive there.

So, who is ready for the expansion starter pack?
>>
>>337448643
If it's going to be available for regular old Zen I might get it. If I can save up enough dil and the rates don't skyrocket even higher, that is.
>>
>>337449261
Grind dil and wait till the end of summer event/the aftermath of the new expansion.
By then lots of people are burnt out of playing it and dil to zen ratio goes down.
>>
I could never get into it. I bought it on release and it just had that unfinished feeling. Space combat is solid, but gound combat is incredibly shit and generic.

I want to say the game is dead, but the /vg/ thread is still up, so I guess some people still play it. Doing land missions with the fleet were always the best.
>>
>>337450718
The game is a living dead.
It is kept up by the combined forces of fanboys, addicts and trekkies who got no other game to scratch their particular itch.
