I actually liked Hugo when I was younger. Yeah, not really *that* great in hindsight, but at least it was memorable.
I'm from germany and I liked hugo because of the tv show when I was really young. I had Hugo 2 for PS1 which was basically mini games and the one in the OP. I enjoyed both even if I knew better shit at the time already like Mario, DK, Tomb Raider and Spyro.
Also that story was a bit sad but also pretty funny OP. If you can, try to be nice to your grandma as long as shes still alive. She will appreciate it.

In the years Ive been here I have never seen Hugo mentioned even once.

There is not one game that I hate more than Hugo. The horrific animation and the awful gameplay I can look past, it was the catchphrases that got me.
There was a level where you climb a volcano, and every time you get burnt Hugo says

The reasons is that you Hugo follows your commands. He's looking at you waiting for the telephone-button presses. He doesn't do anything unless you tell him to. This makes a lot more sense if you ever watched the show. Also, the game lacks background music because you'd have the presenter yelling numbers at and also talkijg to you and the audience.
