Well, there'd be a race of super intelligent octopus at the bottom of the ocean. About as intelligent as humans. They're just entering they're industrial age, and all of their technology evolved around some mineral because no fire/electricity on the ocean floor. Not being content with the mineral supply on the ocean floor, they start a war against humans on land for control of the mineral resources on land. It'd be like Gears of War, except with squid people instead of mole people. And you could have submarine battles and stuff.
And then once the IP is exhausted and they try to reboot it a few years later, it could be humans vs squid people but in space and set hundreds of years in the future.
Government has been completely turned into a corporation (~10 years in future), most of people live under tyranny of a single company that's monopolized every industry available. Group of rag tag boys use old, re imagined current day technology creatively to seige nuclear missile silos, and blow up each target city bit by bit until they have to rush the main central hub by storm.
That or a battlefield clone with capabilities for >512 player servers.

Third person swordsman action game, set in a kind of Final Fantasy medieval time, lots of floaty and vertical movement like prototype or FF15 trailers. You fight among other things 10 or less Knight Bosses through the game and the final battle after scaling an enormous tower is either a King or Prince/Princess who is incapable of putting up a fight.
After you kill them it's revealed you were the villain and the hardest of the Knight Bosses was the "protagonist"
The wizard who lets you level up only comes a few times a year. Usually, his longest stop is just before winter, to project movies for the townsfolk on the warehouse wall. This year, however, after his visit in the spring, no word is heard from him all winter and your character stagnates.
But come next spring he's turned away everywhere else in town when he appeals for a place to live, and ends up living with your family for the summer. You've never been able to level like this before, and the wizard grows fearful of that which he's been assisting in creating and runs away before you can get to powerful.
Once you track him down, you might be able to force him to make you level up, or even convince him, maybe based on your deeds, that it'd be the right choice to. Or maybe you figure you're strong enough without him and head off into the world, finding a town with its own sorceress who, although she may not know how to channel your energy in all the same ways, is settled in the center of town and always reliable.
idk the possibilities are endless. Maybe this new sorceress dies in the harsh winter, or maybe you leave her behind but keep the town in mind and see whoever else you might find. Maybe the wizard you decided not to track down takes on a new pupil or is captured and forced into channeling a potential enemy's energy in ways that wouldn't have been possible if you had found him again first or if, say, you put all your points into luck and intelligence and never scared him away in the first place by hacking down swings in a single strike or dragging house sized monsters or animals back to your yard after your adventure.
Maybe you do even level strength a lot in the latter situation, but the decision to display it or not, take on certain quests or not, etc. influences whether the wizard ever leaves.
