people thought they wanted it but they didn't
Not as interesting when mirrored.
Duke Nukem Forever is a testament to the fact that if you give a developer all the time and money they want it doesn't necessarily mean you get a better game.
Next time you want to declare that an evil publisher ruined a game by forcing the developer to release before they were finished just remember Duke Nukem Forever.

Nothing. It was a solid game. But it came out just in time to be the sacrificial lamb for what we now know as social justice.
What went wrong is that they threw out everything that made DN3D so good.
The level design, the gunplay, the total lack of exploration. DOOM is doing the exact same fucking thing - Simply removing the design philosophies that made the original outstanding.
Why is is so hard to just make a game like Doom 1 or DN3D in a modern engine? Open, interesting level designs based around exploration, keycard collection and puzzles. Fuck.

What if "modern engines" are not designed for handling all that well?

DOOM has that.

If modern engines literally can't handle things that aren't linear corridors, that's a problem on so many levels it's not even funny.

>Why is is so hard to just make a game like Doom 1 or DN3D in a modern engine?
Because one complaint I see time and time again for any game that does have a more traditional design philosophy is that it is "overwhelming".
People don't like not knowing where to go and what to do anymore. It's why all shooters are just linear corridor shooters now, it's why every game mechanic has a tutorial pop up now, it's why RPGs have quest markers now, etc., etc.
It's really irritating because these games are never as complicated as they first appear but people never give them the chance, it's easier to just rush through a "cinematic" rail shooter instead.

Does it now? Post some, I'm interested to see if they at all compare.

Are you retarded? Open world exploration AAA titles have been coming out like crazy.
>>337424381
They took too long to make it
>>337424381
Games aren't supposed to take a decade to develop.
>>337424381
Liberals and let's players.
DNF was boring, not absolutely bad though
>>337424381
Literally everything
Nothing
Duke Nukem Forever was a disaster on all counts. It will be hard to reach this level of failure in gaming ever again.

switching engine numerous time to try not to be outdated
taking 12 fucking years and sucking
shit modernization like 2 weapon gun limit. 4 weapons for pc via patch.
gunplay itself being unsatisfying due to enemies feeling spongey
uninteresting levels
worst thing about dnf is that fucking Gearbox owns Duke IP now. Hope you love a meme spewing tumblr cuck Duke if he ever returns
