I disagree. MGSV might not be setpiece driven like 1 and 3 but it's definitely a Metal Gear game. The only difference is that now the missions play out in different ways depending on the player. MGSV kinda did this with it's outposts but here it's fully realized.

It's really a tragedy. The final mission was supposed to have the head-injury effects from the very first mission (where you can't see certain colors) and part of the challenge was fighting off hazmat-clad enemies while not being able to tell which one was wearing bright red (Liquid)

Zelda 1 would be the most 'Zelda' game if you are trying to consider its roots. Twilight Princess was the game that went the farthest away from Zelda 1. Where Zelda 1 was almost devoid of story and focused purely on exploration and item progression, Twilight Princess was almost devoid of exploration and focused on story/cinematics above all else. And while Skyward Sword also focused too much on cinematics, it still had more nods back to games like LTTP, Link's Awakening, Minish Cap and Wind Waker than Twilight Princess did.
Twilight Princess is effectively the least Zeldaesque game of the series. Some people like that, some people don't.

It had enough connections to Chrono Trigger. On my last playthrough, I counted 42 seperate tie ins to Chrono Trigger. From vague references to the Great Explorer Toma and Ayla to blatant references like Bathizar, Lucca, Marle, Chrono and Epoch. As well as the Kingdom of Porre invading the land.
