Towerclimb is better compared to Spelunky.
In fact, I'd say its more or less Spelunky but reversed.
Spelunky is way harder than any Souls game.

I'd say that Dark Souls is lucky for being released in the right generation when video games are usually casualized to appeal to a wider audience and end up easy as fuck so people could see it as the "hardest" game series ever, we could mention Platinum games too but they don't get much attention.
Tempest. Pirate game made by ruskies, reminds me of a happy medium between Naval Action and Sid Meier's pirates. Its a Russian game through and through, some shoddy translations and no tutorial to speak of. Still, once I'd figured it out I had a lot of fun. Give it a try
