blood bowl is really fun
we actually run an online /tg/ league which you can join completely for free and with all the races, you don't need blood bowl 1 or 2, it's on FUMBBL. Granted, it's a shitty java client with horrible graphics and you need basic knowledge of the rules to understand what's going on. T

one great thing about FUMBBL is people can spectate live matches, and even play cheering sounds or boos or whatever that the players can hear, and the spectators can chat while watching. Matches in our league usually average 10 spectators, all of them from tg, and we have a lot of fun shitting on the players everytime they fuck up or pull some bullshit
I loved bloodbowl but had no interest in picking up 2 when I saw how they gutted tons of races, customization, and basic game features.

1 is more complete (not 100% complete mind you) but has worse graphics than 2, not as newbie friendly and the online has probably shrinked a lot, 2 has very few teams but has better graphics, more newbie friendly and the active online community
so it depends on what you want, or if the only teams you care about are already in 2
then there's fumbbl, which is free and complete but shitty graphics and UI
