I found it to be fun with a few friends on the team, but solo was pretty unfun. I just don't see this lasting long, before going the way of TF2 with the F2P and market system, especially due to "loot boxes" having an element of random to them already. It just seems like the game is groomed to not have staying power, but is already setup to go the free route down the road.
Maybe because I haven't played any shooters between Overwatch and Battlefield 3, I just want something different. TF2 seems to fill the role Overwatch is setting up for without a fee involved, and the meta seems to be like a moba, which isn't really what I want in a shooter. I just want to use vehicles and have fun, instead of constantly rushing into the meat grinder like most matches in Overwatch.

Playing the Open Beta over the weekend made me realize the game isn't worth the pricetag they ask for.
Heck, the game feels way too MOBA-ish with all of its stuns, slowdowns and instakill abilities to me that I doubt I would even enjoy it for too long if was free.

If one setting is objectively better for competetive play than the other then it's really a balancing issue.
Suppose that the slider exists and 75% of players simply set it to the same, optimal setting as dictated by whatever meta guide someone writes. 10% set it to something else and 15% don't know about it.
You'd end up in the same situation as WoW, where people need guides and meta-knowledge to get a major edge over others.
It's not what I would've done for the game, but it's understandable. If you want 'muh professional arena-shooter for mature gamers such as myself' then there's plenty of alternatives.

This argument makes sense until you remember that Overwatch is trying to pretend it's an FPS game, not a strategy game. All of the ways in which Overwatch is different from other real time strategy games (the camera, the pace, the lack of resources to fight over) are flaws.
Let's consider Overwatch's strategy merit compared to another the-player-controls-one-unit strategy game like DOTA. Each player has ~3 skills and an ultimate, so there's parity there.
The camera perspective isn't top-down, it's first person. This makes zero sense for a strategy game and inhibits the player's ability to get an overall picture of what's going on. The controls also make it impossible for the player to ever control more than one unit, like they can in DOTA.
There are no map resources to fight over - as a strategy game, the only strategic element is the win condition.
Overwatch is shit as either an FPS game or a strategy game. So it won't sell by its quality.
