The biggest problem with making an IG shooter is how the fuck would you make that?

In battles against actual imperial enemies like the Eldar or the Orks or the Tau or god forbid the Dark Eldar, the Tyranids or the Necrons, Imperial Guards last a grand total of an hour on the field maybe.

You have five foot something dudes in flack armor and lasers in a world where 8 foot tall super human god machine soldiers bred from the sperm of god aren't even that great in a battle against bigger enemies.

You'd have to make a game where you control an entire platoon, or a game where the moment you die you rapidly change to a new NPC.

That would actually be really cool now I think about it, imagine you get a randomly generated Guardsman or Guardswoman with a randomly generated backstory and family history, you get attached to them and you then have to watch as a Tyranid violently mauls the thing and eats your guard-waifu alive, before the camera whips around to the nearest NPC and thats your new Guard character with their own new backstory, face and family.

Because Eldar lore it takes itself way to seriously. There's no dark humor in it, no hypocritical doctrines, no tragically underpowered fodder units. It's dry and painfully dull shit. Anything even approaching those things is woefully half baked.

If you like reading about how Eldar are super old and wise, and how their so powerful, and that they're cool space ninjas that are way better than everyone, then it would probably appeal to you.

But getting through the codexes are just a long slog of "the Eldar are really awesome guise, please take them seriously"

You seem to forget the Imperial Guard are fighting things like the Orks and the Nids all the time, all over the galaxy, and the Imperium is still around. The Imperium Guard may be a lot of normal humans in a galaxy of horrors, but they still do their job damn well, and not just by dying in massive numbers. There are Guardsmen who are action heroes, and survive countless battles and the like, and there are a few Guardsmen companies that are complete and total badasses. I mean look at the Catchan Jungle Fighters, they are just Imperial Guardsmen, but are some of the hardest motherfuckers around, surviving on a motherfucking Death World and fight Orks regularly while wearing even LESS than a normal Guardsmen.

And don't even get me started on the Steel Legion or the Cadians. Sure the average Guardsman is fodder, but don't even think an IG shooter wouldn't be the sickest shit, because theres plenty of material to work with to MAKE it the sickest shit.
>>
>>337333472

When you die, you instantly switch to a new soldier until everyone is dead, like BF2: MC or ArmA.

The gameplay against CSM, for example would be focused on manoeuvring around them to get a shot on a gap in their armour.
>>
>>337333451
Nobody likes discussing the power level of boring space elves with a shit aesthetic.
>>
>>337333989
They are way too arrogant for the position they are in, lose craftworlds all the time. They can't have canon fodder units because of their small numbers, but have the whole dying-race thing going on. Every codex sells their own race like they are the best and the only funny race I can think of are the Orks and the fuck-ups of the Tau.

Though I can see where you are coming from and it all boils down to taste. Personally I get bored to death by reading how 20 mighty and powerful space marines once took a whole planet down because they are so mighty and powerful.

I don't disagree anon, I agree a lot.

The reason the only army I ever built and painted is the Imps is because they're so so so much more fucking awesome then nearly all the other factions in the lore, the problem is what makes a guard company good isn't its individuals its how well the company functions as a whole.

A game about a lone guardsmen would suck shit through a straw, the game needs to be about the whole team, their relationship, the skills as a group and should incorperate shit like tank columns and air support.

An IG shooter would be the mother fuckin' tits but I want to see it done right.

Take into consideration we're only just now this year finally getting a 40k FPS in general that looks halfway decent with Space Hulk.

Im an Ork boy myself, but I do like the IG, but again, you could easily have an IG game involving a small company rather than, as so many people suggest "A lone Guardsman in a last stand, hold the line, death is inevitable fight" The majority of IG wars never come to that, because the majority of the time the IG do their job and win a battle. There could be an IG shooter where you follow a single IG as he fucks shit up right proper, like a smaller scale Yarrick. It's true that the company as a whole is what makes the IG great, but a single Guardsman can be a legend as well.
>>
>>337335050
Yeah but guards, hell even Kasrkin are fucking useless on their own, Lasrifles don't do shit unless there is enough of them, though I'd be willing to ignore that oversight in favor of the rule of awesome, if the game does a good job.

Could cut it all out and make it a catachan just so we can have guards strong enough to wield bolters.

The context of the quote is a planet that has been infested by heresy. All experience tells the Inquisition that you pretty much can't root out Chaos completely once it has taken hold on a planet. Even if you put down the uprising and put everyone who are even remotely suspected to the sword, herey will still flourish below the surface and emerge again.

Which is what happened to the first Striking Scorpion, meaning the Phoenix Lord of the Scorpion Temple is actually the second to walk the path of the Scorpion unlike all the other Lords. There were hints that he went to the Dark Eldar and became the first Incubi but that fluff predates the Deldar getting their long awaited codex so it might not be true any more.

It's never really been canon that Custodes are super unstoppable badasses though.

It was just generally assumed because you'd think the bodyguards to the Emperor would be the hardest bastards in existence.

Besides, Harlequins (and especially Shadowseers) have always been asskickers on a whole other level.

Lords of Change are large bird like creatures that can see into the future and can see the moves their enemy makes before they make them.

And the Keeper of Secrets. They can?

Keeper of Secrets have the face of Slaanesh when the Keeper was made, and they seek sensations of the highest degree. You have to give them a bit of lee way, because it's kind of hard to weaponize Slaanesh outside of Noise Marines.

>The complex shape caught at his eye and he found himself staring in fascination, trying to decipher the stylised effigy. It seemed to comprise a withered shape, desiccated and frail. He realised with a frown that it was a gue’la figure, almost corpselike in its aspect. Its great papery head — ringed by serried light rays and lightning bolts, hung in limp necrosis, sallow features wrinkled and bloodless. Around and within the skeletal shape was a stylised machine encrusted with yellow and gold mosaic tiles, a rambling arrangement of clustered cables and bound tubing, puncturing and entombing the body, surrounding it in a metallic embrace.

>The cadaver’s eyes peered down into the candlelit chapel with a great, hollow sadness, filling the chamber with mournful tension

>Was this their god? he wondered. Was this their Great Emperor, stubbornly hoarding the faith of his teeming flock and preventing their rightful acquiescence to the Greater Good? A rotting, pestilent corpse ruling over his rotting, pestilent empire. Kais fought to contain his revulsion, regarding the statue blankly. They deserved each other.

-From the Fire Warrior novel

Or you'll get conscripted into the IG thanks to your planets Imperial Tithe and spend the rest of your days being screamed at by drill sergeants, captains and commissars, you will probably see a few small bouts, maybe with feral Orks, or subjugating rebellious planets, and then one day you're shipped off to some meat grinder elsewhere, and if you're really lucky, you'll be put on artillery duty, or put on guard duty at the rear lines.

I don't think total war works well enough in a setting with hella guns, compared to fantasy which is basically just medieval europe with spooky shit tacked on.

Nah, orks don't have interest in that kind of thing (if they even know what sex is). The only drive orks have is the drive to fight, loot and go fast.

You could distract them with shiny piles of guns/loot. Maybe make a big pile of fake/broken guns, and rig the whole thing with a shitload of explosives.

Chaos is actually a logical choice for someone from Earth finding themselves in 40K.

We know that the chaos powers will never be defeated, and that the Imperium WILL shit down your throat forever if you let it.

Whereas chaos will let you live a decent life, at least for a while.

I always though in an IG shooter you would play as an regiment instead of a single soldier. If you die you get to control one of your AI buddies (a bit like Operation Flashpoint). If you die too often (for large battlefields) or all your dudes die (for small engagements) you get a Game Over.

Good luck with that anon. Do you know why the vast majority of the Imperium, despite their HORRIBLE SHITTY EXISTANCES havn't outright turned to Chaos?

Because the Imperium does a very good job of hiding that shit. Only the upper echelon of any Imperium force know about Chaos, besides the Astartes. But the average citizen, and even the majority of Guardsmen have no idea that Chaos exists, because Chaos has a funny way of spreading and corrupting by just it's knowledge. Usually any companies of Guardsmen that engage with Chaos forces are put through heavy cleansing, if not outright purging, if they are exposed to the reality of who they are fighting. It's a rarity that anyone in an average Imperium city would come to know of Chaos, and even if they do, if you aren't some poncy noble or planetary governor, the local Arbites will most likely find out what you're doing (cultist shit) and take you in, where you will most likely be imprisoned, if you aren't killed/turned into a servitor/tortured for days on end

This is why someone from OUR Earth would likely be involved in chaos; they know about it. That alone makes them far more likely to do it then not to.

That and the arbite thing depends on where you are in the galaxy

That makes me kinda sad anon, but could the orkz pull off a bugs bunny what if they put on the dress and wig instead and tried to sneak into a IG base?

>That's only a theory
A theory that was printed in the 3rd ed Ork codex and then repeated in Xenology which is purposely of highly dubious accuracy but still there.
>>
>>337345038
>Decent life
If you are an extremely rich, powerful and influential man. The average cultist of Chaos has a life expectancy of less than a normal Guardsman and just a bit more than a Gretchin. If you aren't being forced to do torturous, grueling grunt work, you are being tortured for fun, killed for a ritual, tortured for a ritual, or thrown literally in front of gun fire for more important people. But hey, look on the bright side, you will be so batshit insane at that point that you will enjoy being a worthless sack of meat to be toyed with by your superiors and thrown into the fray to soak up enemy ammunition.

Not your average Imperium world, anon

Cadia has a VERY strict and thorough screening process on their planet, they snuff out Chaos taint faster than anyone else, and even then they are constantly having to put down cults that spring up and cleaning up their Guardsmen companies

No one seriously wants to be part of Chaos anon. Chaos promises gold, milk and honey, and when you sign up, they stab you in the dick. Only they have pumped your sanity out the window, so getting stabbed in the dick is foreplay. Even people of high status and influence are barely an importance to Chaos, all they are good for is planting the seeds, and then once shit goes down, they are as disposable as everyone else. Chaos doesn't care, Chaos isn't fun, or nice, it isn't comfy or relaxing, it's nightmares ontop of tortures, and if you aren't a fucking Space Marine, you won't be worth a second glance.

Soul Drinkers.
Fought for Imperium.
Got tricked by Tzeench daemon into rebellion.
Kicked him out.
Mutated a lot.
Became excommunicate.
Roamed galaxy on a space hulk with dwindling numbers.
Got fucked up by necrons.
Dug up dreadnought that turned up to be their ancient war philosopher dude.
Got captured by Imperial Fists.
Found out their primarch is not Rogal Dorn.
Summoned daemons to Phalanx.
Found out that all of this was planned by said dreadnought dude.
Handful of surviving marines escape into warp portal.

Nah mate that's bullshit.

The Imperium is brutal and uncompromising, perhaps moreso to its own citizens than anyone else. If turning to Chaos is a path to revenge, or justice, or even freedom, then that's the path you choose, because there's no other power in the galaxy strong enough to oppose those loyal to the God-Emperor.

To say that nobody has a legitimate beef with the Imperium isn't anywhere close to being true.
