They said that all new characters and maps will be free, but that they'll charge for some cosmetics, so presumably like the Noir skin for Widowmaker and the five in the Origins edition, some skins won't be unlockable normally.

I got more than 500 coins by the end of the Open beta.
It's all RNG.
I didn't even spend them since I had all the skins i wanted.
As long as they keep it that you get loot boxes every time you level up, there will be plenty of chances to get something you want without having to buy anything if you don't want to.
The real question is, will Blizzard eventually make Overwatch F2P like what Valve did with TF2. I imagine that has been there plan this entire time.
Grab as much money as they can by releasing it as B2P and still have cash shop cosmetics. Then make it F2P with some type of restrictions.

Coins seem to be a pretty shitty method of unlocking things. I mean, I guess I can't really complain since you still have the chance to get legendaries from boxes, but I only ended up with ~600 coins during the open beta. The refund rate for shit you already have it disgustingly low, it's like 20% of the value.

i doubt it, I dont think they are willing to take the backlash and negative press for such blatant jewing out.
they might make the game dirt cheap in price to get as close to f2p as possible like $15 since cs:go manages to become one of the most popular games with that price tag, but taking the full plunge and going f2p would be a giant "fuck you" to the community that bought the game. Lowering the price is atleast a more subtle way of doing it and price drops are never something that gets brought up or viewed as common jewing tactics.
