That is part of what makes MH fun for me.
Pretty much any Nintendo game. They're fun for a few minutes but they're too shallow to want to play for longer than that.

MGS is pretty easy to get into -- I only played through the entire series about a year and a half before MGSV came out. NieR is pretty short for an RPG too.
For me, it's Strategy games. Any of them. Paradox, 4X, Civ, Total War, you name it, I suck shit at it. The only one I've had even middling success with is Mount and Blade, because it really even isn't a strategy game. I just can't handle them, even once I think I understand the mechanics.

Western RPG's.
I have been playing JRPG's for as long as I can remember. I picked up Fallout 3 when it first came out and I was lost as fuck. Having OPTIONS and making choices that effected how the game played out was just anxiety. I blew up the first city and said fuck this. I can't handle not knowing what I'm missing either way.
Same thing with Dark Souls games. I just can't do it. I want to, but I can't.
Fighting games, my only friend says he will only play melee and nothing else so I have no one to play with. I really enjoy watching them though.

Personally, I started at MGS 2. The documents at the start give you insight to 1. After that I began playing the rest. Really only played 2, 3, and Ground Zeroes and MGR. Getting the Legacy Collection for PS3 would be the best start.
Puzzle games, all of them. I can play them but I'm not a fan and think they're more boring than mascot platformers.

Though not for lack of wasting money. WoW plus all expansions (minus WoD) lasted me maybe 70 hours tops? FF14+Heavensward about 120 hours.
I'm a social retard even online, so the thought of trying to make friends with randoms is impossible for me.
I got really sucked into the FF14 main quest, but it felt like the game was doing everything in it's power to keep me from getting a good pace on those quests.

Grand Strategy. It appeals to my need for micromanaging, but I always feel like a lobster tossed into a pot of boiling water. I've played through dozens of tutorials for different games, watched Youtube videos and read tons of gameplay tips/strategy.

No, HD edition is on Steam but you can also just pirate it since charging $15 for a 20 year old game is jewish and MS owns the rights.
Ensemble RTSes are pretty different from Blizzard ones, and AoE is also grounded in reality instead of fantasy.
