The game was originally meant to be a murder mystery, and that's what I expected after playing the demo. I was fucking mad.

Literally the only good part was the very beginning. And the child missions? What the fuck, the flashbacks have a 50's motiff, and the main character clearly would have been a kid in the 80's/90's.
The devs were all over the place with this game
moderately unsatisfactory anxiety and suicide simulator. the female detective will actually quit the force and the game will end if the lights in the precinct basement arent directly overhead for a short period of time. iirc, you can "inadvertently" cause the deaths of five or six children throughout the game. this is the worst game I have ever played, in every aspect. I have no idea how this game generated enough impetus for an HD remaster.

Like others in this thread mentioned, the game was great at first but progressively turned to shit the further along it got.
It should have stayed more murder-esque and cultish instead of turning into superpowers chosen one shit.

I just finished the remaster and they actually did a good job with it, I didn't realise the original looked this bad.
The game was good until like literally the 50% mark where the main character is caught by the police. Until then it's a murder mystery where you get to play as the killer with slight supernatural elements thrown in. It was cheesy and weird at some points, but half the game was still relatively solid.
Then it brings out a crazed AI monster, Mayan cultists, fights ripped right out of the Matrix, zombie sex, an Illuminati-esque group of homeless people, literal angels that attack you, and Dragon Ball powers thrown in for good measure (Kane literally charges up during the final fight). If they had cut the game in half, got rid of the supernatural stuff, and made your choices determine whether Kane got away or was captured with deviations then it would've been a cheesy but pretty good game. But David Cage must have been smoking something towards the latter half of development, goddamn.
