Am I the only one who DOESN'T miss couch co-op?
It could be fun, certainly, but the it was always easy for the fun between the two of you to be unbalanced. The host will be more inclined to care about what is going on in the game, after all, it's his game. But the guest has nothing to gain or lose from playing other than time, so he's likely to get bored much more quickly. And if one person stops having fun, it becomes a drag for everyone involved. But you can't be like, "lets do something else" every time you get bored or you'll piss off your bros.
The glory of online co-op is that you don't need to rely on other people to play with other people. You can break from the game as soon as you get bored and you won't have to entertain someone anymore. You're free to do as you please. And if someone quits your game, all you have to do is wait for someone else to join, it's not reliant on your real world friends. Plus, both players will likely be equally passionate about their game so both will have more fun.
Couch co-op was fine while it was the thing, and it's not like it doesn't have a place anymore, but I'm glad it's not the dominant way to play with others anymore.
