What went wrong?
It was full of bugs and glitches
>>337268112
It's a Sonic game
It was a tie in.
>>337268112
People still giving a shit about Sonic
>>337268112
>What went wrong?
They didn't learn from '06
>>337268112
>lets make a sonic game for xbone and ps4, in an engine that doesn't work on the wii u
>SEGA: it has to be wii U exclusive now we signed a deal.
>SEGA: what? Of course you won't get extra time we got a deadline to hit get working
Trying to force a "franchise" instead of a quality product.
it wasn't a Sticks game
It was pretty obviously unfinished
>Empty hub town
>Music just disappears at times
>Extremely awkward cutscene pacing
>All the bugs and glitchie-witchies
>Tons of recycled side-on platforming """"""puzzles""""""
Lots of really bad/weird decisions too
>Still use rings to take damage
>Only lose a few rings on each hit but you can get up to 100 (Or even more if you own the 3ds version and link them)
>Can switch characters mid combat but they all play the same
>Shitty story that doesn't match the goofy tone of the cartoon
>EVERYONE TALKS ALL THE TIME FOREVER AND NEVER EVER SHUTS UP
Even if it was finished and polished, it probably wouldn't be a very notable game. It's about on par with those Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventure platformers, but with more bugs
>>337268112
Sega let the wrong guys touch their IP.
>>337268559
How can they learn from something that's not in their control? It wasn't the developer's fault entirely that the game was buggy as fuck. It was Nintendo's.
>>337269197
How is it nintendo's fault at all? They had 0 input on the game
sonic team and sega give more shits about sale deadlines for christmas than making good games.
Not to mention they were so tired of fucking up that they handed it to bigredbutton and
made the mistake of metroid other M
It's actually an alright platformer game with great throwbacks to old 3d platformers. Sure it was buggy at first but the game is now cleaned up so it's playable more. In addition, the game cutscenes were cute, funny, and adventorous, making the game fleashed out. It's decent and I just wish people stop jumping on bandwagon of hating the game. It's a pretty good and simple platformer. What more is there to say?
>>337269430
Uh, because it is? DUH! Don't you know that everything is Nintendo's fault?
>>337269430
The development kits red button had were almost nothing like the specs of the actual Wii U console. The devs had a shot in the dark and it missed horribly.
That and they needed to switch engines or something, plus the time constraints equals a severely fucked up and rushed game.
>>337269451
Kill yourself
You can't defend a console game that dips to 15fps anytime enemies are on screen. it's next to unplayable
>>337269445
>made the mistake of metroid other M
I get what you're saying, but team ninja really wasn't at fault for Other M's problems. It was all Yoshio Sakamoto. He forced the Wiimote and made tons of other weird dumb changes, like turning the gravity suit into a purple aura
>>337269673
Unplayable? I can move my characters fine and I've completed the game. Twice at least.
Also, 15 fps? Buddy, I don't see that.
Stop exaggerating. It's a fine platformer.
>>337269841
It's a subpar platformer. Don't gussy this game up as more than it is.
>>337268112
Big Red Button fucked up and even Sega themselves know it was a mistake associating with them.
>>337270050
I have platofrmer bias, so I don't mind this game since the game's fine without glitches and such.
>>337268246
never prevented Ubisoft and Bethesda games to make bank
>>337270465
Funny considered it released in the same year as WatchDogs and AC:Unity, making 2014 one of the worst years for video games.
>>337269665
That's the most bullshit excuse I've ever heard. Nintendo is not at fault for anything in this game.
In fact I'm pretty sure I saw a developer screenshot showing the game running at sub-20 fps on a devkit so I don't know where you got this information from.
>>337270598
Found the pic. Note the
>FPS 15.0
>>337270598
The developers are not at fault entirely either. They were given an extremely strict timespan which was only made worse by the dev kit situation. Not only was the final console weaker, but 20% or something of the console's memory was allocated to the gamepad. So you have a weaker console with 80% memory to work with along with a game mid-way through development that needs to be severely downgraded in an incredibly tight amount of time.
It's not like the developers of Boom or 06 intentionally made a shit game out of laziness or lack of experience. They had shitty higher-ups and other obstacles to deal with.
>poor genre choice
>poor engine choice
>Wii U exclusive
>half-hearted alt universe that isn't even canon to said universe
>cut-content
>admitted focus put on shipping the game rather than making it good
>SEGA being fucking idiots
>>337268112"Innovation"
Is it really that difficult to pull off a sonic game that actually gives a real sense of speed? Quite sad that the games where you can find this element are only the racing ones.
>>337270856
Holy shit thats some damn fine resolution to see her afterburner stats.
>>337271562
>Is it really that difficult to pull off a sonic game that actually gives a real sense of speed?
It's not at all.
The problem is making it last longer than two hours. Most devs choose to bog it down with slower gameplay styles.
>>337270856
>that arm tattoo
You'd think SEGA wouldn't need outside help to make a piece of shit Sonic game
>>337271670
sounds like lazy devs to me
I actually met one of the guys who worked on this game, at a rave of all places
>rando dude starts hanging out with our group
>seems kinda down and sad
>get a chance to ask him what's wrong
>"I dunno I'm not feeling it, besides its kinda hard to just talk about myself"
>I can introduce you to people, what do you do
>"I make video games, I'm on the team working on Sonic Boom" [not out yet at this point]
>both pop a molly and get back to friend group
>I introduce him as the guy who works on sonic games and try to make that sound as cool as possible
>he just gets sadder and more withdrawn
>goes home alone early
This game crushes souls
>>337273429
Don't forget this and Chris Chan as well.
>>337268112
Just about everything.
The marketing didn't do as good of a job making the distinction that this was its own thing.
The timing was shit because the last thing to come out was LW.
The communication between the dev team and SEGA was almost nonexistent.
The development of the game in general was just a clusterfuck and most problems had to be solved via jerry-rigging and a lot of people quit the summer before the game released leaving it to flounder harder than it already was going to.
Had the potential to be alright but it just ended in shit. Oh well. At least the cartoon is okay.
