>>

>>
>>337246746
It didn't gain any steam and they basically gave up on it and gave it to the community and said "here you fuck with it we're bailing" So it's in permanent pre alpha lol. I expect any day now epic will formally announce they dropped it.

what is this autism I'm witnessing? Did summer finally start?

First of all, UT was massively popular. It hasn't had a dedicated title for years.

Secondly, the game isn't finished, and barely any advertising hasn't been done. Wow, an unfinished game with no advertising that's still in development isn't massively popular at the moment, holy shit STOP THE PRESSES
>>
>>337247323
SC BW is infinitely better then SC2 and yet SC BW has like 1/50 of the SC2 playerbase.

What does the amount of partakers have to do with the game it self? For example, fighting games have always had a very small and dedicated community.
>>
>>337246746
I enjoy it and play it whenever I feel like playing a shooter.

That said the majority of people don't want to play an old school arena shooter. I suspect part of the reason being that the difference between a good player and new player is fucking staggering.

Someone can easily go like 50 and 0 in a pub game if they're good enough. You wouldn't really see this is most other shooters these days. I could take some kills off of the best CoD player and likely even a godlike CS-GO player. Drop me in a game with a godlike Unreal or Quake player and they'll likely never even run out of armour.
>>

If it was really being developed there would be almost constant updates and content made to the game at least on a weekly bases. It has nothing. It's being treated as a side/back burner project that they develop when they feel like it

>It has nothing. It's being treated as a side/back burner project that they develop when they feel like it

Except that it's starting to get mainstream attention from big FPS youtubers and 3D modelers for the unreal engine.

I really like the game itself but the server browser and quick join options are so fucking shitty I don't wanna bother with finding a match. ever since TORtanic, /v/ has had this obsession with "what went wrong?"

every game that isn't amazingly popular is decried as a complete failure, simply because it wasn't a massive success.
This could not be further from the truth. The game is still very young, and has not had the same amount of advertising as Overwatch. Prominent streamers were given overwatch access, tacobell advertised overwatch, blizzard even made cinematic shorts for it.

The new UT has been quiet, but steadily developed and improved, with frequent content updates, as well as full-map texturing. It's in its infant stages, but to say "what went wrong?" is absurd

Don't get so defensive man, I actually like this game. Yes-Men and Fanboys are agents of ruin and stagnation, but I'm actually concerned that modern toxic gamers will turn people away from joining in the UT fandom.

It's not about UT fans being nice, it's about modern gamers being shit and them just so happening to choose to shit up this games community. You are not friendly based purely on the virtue that you are playing UT.

You can go to the UT message boards and see instances of fan boys and yes-men treating people who make any kind of critique like total garbage.

It would be nice for this game to get as big as CSGO, but hopefully the garbage community won't translate over as well.

not him, but UT4 is very close to UT99, a beloved classic. The insult he used here implies that you've never played the games and enjoyed them in their whole glory.

I kind of agree with him. CSGO is a dumb downed, crappy version of 1.6. Mobas are cancer. Minecraft is shit. Cod is shit. And this amazing, skill based arena shooter where you can out skill your opponent and absolutely destroy him, he says "it's just not fun"?

why is it not fun? too slow? too fast? too hard to aim? he doesnt elaborate, he just gives up, like someone from gen Z would.

I've played every Unreal Tournament game that was on PC. I miss customizing bots from the original game, though... Facing off against players is great and all, but there was a certain charm to using a mod like X-Bots to give yourself hundreds of bot slots and then creating tons and tons of characters, with varied models, skins, voices, and so forth. What crazy characters would you face this time?

I miss bots and being able to easily customize characters. How did they manage to make it less accessible in UT2003 onward?

I felt that Unreal Tournament 3 was a betrayal of the fandom, which was more concerned with marketing to Gears of War fans than to actual Unreal Tournament fans. It didn't even have the Unreal Tournament in it.

I think it looks more like a rocket launcher. That kind of design could work for a weaker, rapid-fire micro-rocket launcher.

Personally I'd like to see them add every iteration of every weapon to UT4 so we can choose what versions we want to use. This isn't a very important feature of course, so I wouldn't expect it until they've got more important things down. I remember UT2004 let you choose between several iterations of weapons.

The Flak cannon only acts as a shotgun because you explode the shell while it's still in the gun so all the pointy stuff gets sprayed out the end.

>>
>>337260953
>>337260676
the issue with games that have big communities and are esports driven is that it creates a sense of ego for everyone, but there's not consequence to having a shitty personality

If you get shot in the head in CSGO, there's something wrong with the other player. They MUST be doing some cheesy strategy, or the game engine is in their favor, or it's lag, or the game has bad design or whatever.

Those players must not accept the fact that they are perhaps worse at the game at all costs. And if they do admit someone is better than them, then that person 'has no life'.

Having a large community where you won't be seeing some of the same faces ever again, you can afford to be an asshat. With a smaller community, and less pressure to be 'the best', it creates a friendlier environment where you can't openly be an asshole to someone every single day
>>
>>337261250
I dislike how you only use 3 guns in quake. There's no reason to use anything other than the RL, lightning gun, or rail rifle, unless you lack all three of those.

Also, the lightning gun is bullshit. No gun should be extra high damage, constant hitscan, with global range. Hitscan is inherently bad for an arena fps unless it's a one shot (sniper like gun) or close range, like a shotgun.

The weapon variety in UT is also greater. Although not all guns are super powerful, they all have a place and a strength. The biorifle can't be used to fight an enemy directly, but it can be used as something to create traps, or let you know where your opponent is. Every gun in UT has some special niche ability that adds to the map strategy and control, rather than camping red armor and quad damage over and over with rails, rockets, and lightning.
>>
>>337246746
Nothing.

It's an alpha with little advertising, intended for all of those who actually care and used to play UT, in order to have way better feedback from players.

I've been playing it almost every night, there is usually a 50-100 player online count, not to mention the PUG servers, where the most skilled dudes are (and these won't show up on the main hub list, giving you the "dead game" feel).

The only thing they are doing wrong is not considering bringing the game to steam after it's done. Steam, if anything, is a necessary evil to bring more players and longevity to games.
>>
>>337261930
Ubisoft is cancer, but at least they have the brains to understand that going through steam is how you get your games to sell more.

They want to sell cosmetics and have some sort of steam market system done by themselves, i can see why they don't want to move to Steam and lose on profit.

LG doesn't have global range. Every gun in Quake has a purpose.

Shotgun = finishing enemies off in close range
Plasma = area denial, groups of enemies, plasma climb
Grenade Launcher = area denial and best choice if they're in your face and you know for certain you can hit them
Starter MG = best gun against low hp enemies from medium to long range
Gauntlet = enemy blindly rushes you around the corner
HMG = hitting erratically moving enemies from outside LG range

The chance to actually fight back and do something about your possible-impending death is very low, though. It's often about who sees who first.

>>337266272
Everyone is slow in fuck in "realistic" FPS games, though. In Unreal Tournament you run around like a mad man double-jumping and flipping off the walls. You can actually avoid shots.

You usually have to aim or accurately predict your opponent's movements in an insta-gib match. In realistic shooters you can just spray and you win because 2 of your bullets hit.

I'd wager they shouldn't join Steam yet.

As it currently is, the majority of people playing are UT enthusiasts who are very knowledgeable about UT gameplay, mechanics, maps, etc. These are the right type of players that should be providing feedback towards the alpha, and not cod players who will get absolutely devastated and cry the game is unfair and unbalanced, demanding a complete rework.

Modders can charge money for things they create, and a percentage of the money goes to Epic to pay for the game. Modders don't have to charge, though.

I miss the days when you could buy a game for decent sum and get everything. I don't like having to grind exp to unlock character and customization, either.

I'm cautious and reluctant to contribute money to a "f2p" scheme game because most modern games of that sort die due to lack of funding regardless of how much I paid. See Nosgoth, Age of Empires Online, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, and probably Loadout soon. Eventually f2p schemes will die out in general as more and more people become reluctant to put down money for fear of their contributions being for nothing.

They should put it on Steam so more people can see that this game exists.

>game is literally (non-figuratively) called unreal
>omg why isn't it realistic??

>le cowadoody strawman

It's possible to like both.

My only complain is player models. I want them to be like in UT2004.

Except Tor is printing EA money. It's already made back it's dev costs. Sure it sank, and then it came out of the abyss even stronger.

>>337268996
What do you mean by that? UT4 is pretty close already, way closer than UT3's hulking space marines.
>>
>>337268376
Fucking idiot. The image isn't about realism, it's about how fucking stupid and ugly the weapons look. They look like shit with unnecessary shit poking out all over the place.
>>
It's in development with zero advertising.. They literally do not want a lot of people playing it right now.

All Ubisoft games are on Steam. EA had all their games on Steam until a few years ago (Crysis 2 was probably the last game they released on Steam).

They feel to small to me. Maybe my memory is shit and they were the same size. I dunno. Still hyped as fuck because i played UT2004 on a pro level.

>>337246746
what game is this? i promise i'll play it
>>
>>337269664
UT2004 has a really wonky scale in terms of players vs maps. Could that be messing with your mind a bit?

This thread made me reinstall UT4. Anyways,

>open launcher
>see this

What the hell happened with this game? Weren't they hyping it up some YEARS ago? Talk about development hell
>>
>>337269575

Newer Ubisoft games open the Uplay launcher, and require a Uplay account.

>>337269771
Probably. How is UT4 compared to UT2004 skill wise? Is the skill ceiling higher or lower?
>>
>>337246746
It's only in early stages of development?

They only started thinking about an audio team late last year, and it's only recently that most of the weapon designs have been finalized.

The game itself was pretty wobbly on a lot of systems with window minimization on starting or exiting a map until this winter while they were still tinkering with low level features and progress monitoring.
>>
>>337269772
They want to focus on their FPS MOBA instead
>>
>>337246746
Because they haven't marketed the game yet, barely anyone knows they're making it.

I honestly think this is a good thing, there's no reason for them to try to get a ton of players on an unfinished pre-alpha and have the hype die down once the game is released because everyone forgot about it rather than actually trying to get players when the game is more finished and people will actually stick to it.

Hell, I had several friends who always wanted a new UT but they didn't know they were making a new one.

WOW! And it only took 5 years!

Fuck off.

>>337271014
You sound upset that this game is making money.

Aww
>>
>>337271014
>>337269126
Do you mean the base cost of the game at release? because it cost EA over100 million didn't it? Not sure but it was ludicrously high.
